Shipley Do-Nuts sold to PE

That place has been a road trip staple for my family for as long as I can remember.

On the way back, veer off 59 at Inez and eat a nice, greasy cheeseburger and onion rings at Smitty’s. You’ll never regret it. Well, you might if your cholesterol numbers aren’t great.

Oh, I’ve been there. :slightly_smiling_face:

I miss Hinze’s on 59 in Wharton. It wasn’t the greatest BBQ, but it was a fantastic place.

Couldn’t beat the location. Right there on the 59.

Weikel’s is a go to stop on the way to Austin

Is Pena’s still around?

Hadn’t heard it mentioned in a while but also never been there and dont know where they are.

I think so
there are a couple of them now. The donut shop and a cafe by Raymond Peña. I think that was his name , right ?

Yea. Raymond. Was his handle RPdonuts?

People think I’m crazy when I say that Shipley’s is overrated. For donuts AND kolaches. They’re not bad, just very bland, boring and chewy. Once you’ve tried other mom and pop places like a Korean donut establishment, Shipleys just seems plain as hell. Personally I prefer Krispy Kreme texture over Shipley’s if we’re talking chains. Maybe people are just loyal because it’s a local thing

Nothing beats a hot plain glazed from Shipley. But you may be right, it’s tradition.

Somebody gets it. People just always had shipley. Places like parlor donuts are a level above this, but kk over shipley.

I’m here to share that I hate Krispy Kreme - always have. They aren’t real donuts, and they also make me feel terrible.

Shipley’s aren’t the world’s greatest, but I would never ever choose KK over a Shipley’s donut. In fact, I won’t even eat them when they’re free.

Those little donut shops and bakeries can really be awesome, especially when you venture into the cake and old fashioned donuts, and stuff like apple fritters.

We very rarely go to shipley’s. We hit mom and pop shops instead.

Doesn’t Shipley sponsor UH football? Reason enough to go there.

I like Krispy Kreme, especially when they are hot and fresh out of the fryer.

But I agree.

Shipley’s over KK any day!

Then of course
there’s VOODOO DOUGHNUTS!!!

Only issue i have have with Krispy Kreme is you gotta have a water just to have one donut due to how sweet they are

Voodoo is okay, they are a little more on the cake side, far from a wholesome korean donut shop. Voodoo needs to make a “plain jain”

The one thing I’ll give a KK donut is that they make fantastic BBQ sandwiches, especially pulled pork. So they’re a great bun. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m listening
