Texas Tech won by the smallest margin. Very quickly a couple of numbers are noticeable.
Their QB had a higher amount of yards per average.
They had six WR’s with double digits averaging 10+ more yards vs four for us.
They had three sacks vs one for us.
These numbers show that our OL is still not there yet but indeed has progressed immensely from 2025.
Our DL is where I expected more tonight especially inside. Hammond played great but had way too much time to throw and pick the right read. Remember how good the OSU QB was? Hammond was just as good or better. There is a ton to learn there. Clearly we need to improve on tackling. That is fundamental.

I saw three clear face masks. The replays were as clear as can be but the most frustrating part of it is that the refs are right there. This leads me to the following question and please review the rule book if this is even possible.
Should a possible face masks be called in by the in booth referees?
I am asking because this is an integral part of the game. There possibly 15 viable yards to be had.
Instant replay was widely used during the entire game. Even the last play was reviewed.
So shouldn’t a face mask be called by the booth referee or call the referee to review the play? Again I do not know if this even possible.
Take UH away from it or any team that you like. A face mask is a face mask. On top of that it can end your career or even more. Shouldn’t it be common sense.

IIRC, a facemask can only be called in a review if it happened during a play being reviewed for another reason.
Say they were checking to see if the runner fumbled, and during that, the refs missed that the defender grabbed the runners facemask. They can call the facemask on the defender, which overturns the fumble.
There are only a handful of penalties that can be reviewed and facemask by itself isn’t one of them.
They missed a targeting which is/should be usually reviewed but they didn’t even call it. The Techer came down on Sanford’s helmet directly with his own helmet. This was at the start of the last drive in the 4th.

Be College or pros the rule has to change. I just can’t believe it has not been changed already. A missed face mask has, can and will change a game’s outcome. There are no excuses for missing one, just one when we have instant replay. In soccer the VAR booth (video referees from a remote booth) will let the referee know that a major infraction took place. When you miss three to four face masks that everybody can see on live TV there is an obvious problem with this rule.
The UFL has it so a coach can challenge any live ball foul. Example is a coach calls timeout and says they should have called holding. If the challenge was successful, they get the TO back and one more challenge. If it fails, they lose the TO and can’t challenge again.
They also have it so a penalty that can harm a player can be reviewed by the review booth or “sky judge” without a team using a challenge.
In 2026 it is amazing that this has not been implemented. Think of the safety side of it too.

I think the NCAA has only one problem with this. Game would take longer and that would upset networks like Fox and ESPN. More Big 12 games would get moved to ESPNews in the 4th quarter so they could show an SEC or Big Ten game.
The UFL is a spring pro league and networks need something to broadcast that might draw more viewers than a cornhole tournament or axe throwing contest, so they don’t mind the extra time it takes.
If time is the problem then we have an even bigger problem than that. What is doubly disturbing is the safety side of a face mask. I sure hope it is going to be looked at sooner than letter. Should a lethal injury make this happen? I sure hope not.
The resaon I said that is the NCAA changed the time rules to speed up the games a few years ago. For example, if a player stepped out of bounds, the clock stopped until the next snap. Now it starts after the referee sets the ball and only remains stopped after the two munute timeout.

I get it but a face mask like targeting should be punished when it happens. It should not be allowed. By the referees not calling it…it is allowed.
