Should we get rid of the penny?

Are customers throwing rolled-up pennies at the dancers?

I have seen pennies get flung at a bartender on Bourbon Street…

They’re also great for discouraging tailgating…

Do you think we’ll get rid of daylight savings too?

I say go the other direction, make daylight savings year round

God no.

Curious for those that want to get rid of the penny. How do you propose businesses charge for goods, round up on every purchase to the nearest nickel? round down? other?

Then what ramifications would there be on those charges being different for cash purchases if any on the books and economy when a large number of economic transactions get shifted?

as meaningless as pennies have become as loong as there is retail, grocercy and drug stores, they will be needed.

i always try and pay with cash for anything under $100, went to a bar and bought a drink couple of weeks ago, they did not take cash; i bought the drink on the card and told the waitress no cash, means no tip. cash is still the best for transactions and i never get a text from goerge washington asking me if i made a purchase; i have had my visa card compromised 2 times in three months.

But when your Visa card is compromised, Visa takes care of it. If your cash is lost or stolen, it’s gone. You’re more protected using a card in that sense.

Granted I’m not worried about being tracked. If the government wants to know what I’m doing, they will figure that out. They ain’t gonna find anything interesting though.

The penny costs more to make than it’s worth and has little real value in everyday transactions. The idea of rounding to the nearest cent is arbitrary—just move the decimal over and round to the nearest dime. It’s a small adjustment in thinking that could save money and make transactions more efficient.

I watched the video, it’s a good argument. Get rid of the nickel too.

i am not worried about being tracked either, in todays digital society if anyone that has the ability to track you really wanted to, they could get you in an hour, at+t knows more about me than my mother, but i work in IT, visa has your back but being digitally compromised is a lot bigger threat and i’m a vet and losing cash is rare unless you are robbed which is very rare, card compromises happen daily.

I just think that risk is lower than my cash being stolen. I haven’t used cash in well over a decade and have had minimal issues other than the occasional card compromise which the card provider has always handled. Add convenience and points and it’s a no brainer for me.

I recognize others don’t see it that way.

What about being tracked by your wife. She don’t need to know every time I eat kolaches

Agree, it’s all a waste at this point unless we truly wanted to go cashless.
