Should we get rid of the penny?

It actually costs more to mint a penny than its worth. I’m all for getting rid of it. I must have $1000 worth of pennies in jar somewhere at home.

I pretty much never pay with cash. And if I have any coins, they end up stashed somewhere to never be used.

I only deal with coins when they overflow from the cup holder in my cars center console.

We need to move the decimal like Mexico did with Peso. A dollar doesn’t spend anymore and a penny is worthless

If you guys are right then Norb won’t mind me stopping by the take his pennies.

Why stop with the penny ?

Penny cost $.03 cents to make and a nickel over $.11. More savings to get rid of both.

For the 19th consecutive year, a penny cost more to produce than it’s worth.

There have been other times pennies have cost more than 1¢, but this is its longest losing streak. They now cost 3¢, while nickels cost 11.5¢. Producing these two coins last year cost the U.S. Mint $179 million. Meanwhile, $100 bills are increasingly awkward to use—many economists favor eliminating them entirely—and in 2021, consumers used credit cards for 57% of purchases, according to the Federal Reserve.

Of course $179 million/yr is a drop in the federal bucket.

We’re heading toward a cashless society, so coins and bills will eventually be eliminated.

The end of strip clubs?

Lol

You can sell scripts at vending machines (like atm).

You can tip the dancers that way.

It will appear on your credit card as some refined highbrow business.

What’s the matter with you people, can’t you count up money, make change. How will kids ever learn to add and subtract. In my day…

That sucks, seeing as how pennies are worthless.

Also, I did the math, that jar is holding 550 lb of pennies!
