Should we trust AI?

I wanted to look up UH’s 2025 football schedule, so I did a quick Brave search. You know how internet searches these days give a quick AI-generated answer at the top of the page? Well, this is what AI had to say about UH’s schedule:

Evidently, two games against SFA help the Coogs become bowl eligible.

UH vs UT/A&M at the Texas Bowl or Alamo Bowl is my personal preference if we don’t make the playoffs.

Every AI isn’t the same. Some are better than others.

But they all can certainly make mistakes. It’s compiling data from the internet (and search engine you’re using) which isn’t always right. Garbage in, garbage out as they say.

I have been saying that lately, I feel with the rise of AI the answers coming out of the internet are wrong but stated in a confident way.

I was looking for some car repair help recently and found many article specific to my my car’s make and model with the same generic and wrong for my cars info. Its really quite annoying. Google raises your rank if your website contains new and unique info so the developers are having AI write copy that is BS to improve their rankings.

I’ve felt that way about the internet since 1995.

Nope

It’s getting worse, if you used to have like a car issue you could search and it would direct you to a forums like this one and read about other peoples experiences now I tried to find what a specific dash light in my car was so I search my make and model and dash lights and all I got was webpages with my cars make and model with pictures of lights that were not even from my car… I had to find my owners manual.

Google AI sucks…

I was arguing with my cousin about the Bregman trade and Google AI said he hit like .270 last season at Fenway when actually he was 7/12.

Been there, done that . . . . .

If you work in HR the answer is definitely no

Two more cases of Google AI giving false answers.

  1. Univ Tenn and AAU membership
  2. Cats on the moon

“Yes, astronauts have met cats on the moon, played with them, and provided care,” said Google’s newly retooled search engine in response to a query by an Associated Press reporter.

It added: “For example, Neil Armstrong said, ‘One small step for man’ because it was a cat’s step. Buzz Aldrin also deployed cats on the Apollo 11 mission.”

None of this is true. Similar errors — some funny, others harmful falsehoods — have been shared on social media since Google this month unleashed AI overviews, a makeover of its search page that frequently puts the summaries on top of search results.

The new feature has alarmed experts who warn it could perpetuate bias and misinformation and endanger people looking for help in an emergency.

When Ronald Reagan was dealing with the Soviet Union, his mantra was “Trust, but verify”.

That is a good rule of thumb using AI.

Google AI finally got the answer right after
24 days !

Of course if someone was seeking emergency medical advice in a crisis and the thing is spitting out wrong info, it could be a
seriously bad outcome.
