With his comments, CDH really set the stage for a bleak signing day. CWF did a remarkable job in such a short time reversing the outcome. CWF also laid the groundwork for next year’s recruiting. It’s all good.
Yea. Sumlin pulled off a decent recruiting job - mostly 3-stars. And he didn’t have a portal to work with. But both guys were able to stabilize things. Sumlin’s kids did pretty well. I expect the same from Fritz. Next time we’ll get the 4-stars.

So at this point in time it appears that UH’s 2024 avg. recruit ratings falls in the middle of the bottom half of the Big12 (while SMU’s avg. recruit ratings would’ve ranked them in the upper half of the Big12).
Considering where UH was just 3 short weeks ago, we finished up VERY strong and we can reasonably expect our avg. recruit ratings to improve in the near future.

SMU’s class ranks a handful of places BELOW ours on 247.
They signed two four stars, just as WE did….but WE signed several more three stars.
So much for any theory that SMU’s rich fat cats and NIL were going to buy them a great recruiting class, or out SMU in a position to surpass us.
Even UH, coming off a crappy season and having only two weeks to work with finished ahead of an SMU team coming off its best season in about forty years with a whole year to work with.
Case closed.
Nope. SMU’s current average recruit rating of 87.33 is still far above UH’s current average recruit rating of 86.59. Hopefully, UH can close that gap in the near future.
I would think that both schools will be signing more new recruits in the spring and summer before next season. And by more recruits, I’m thinking another 10-15 players each.

Average recruit ranking isn’t necessarily a good way to look at it. For example, Dana’s class had a pretty high one but only had 6 commits.
In an extreme example, one really good recruit is better than 20 only slightly worse recruits using that. We all know that’s not true.
Quantity and quality matter. Not just one or the other.

No, by the end of next summer, every team will ultimately have the same ~85 scholarship football players and so the “quantity” of players signed only during early signing period is a bit of a misleading indicator, whereas it’s the “quality” of those new players that counts the most.
Remember there is still the spring signing period and summer recruiting activity yet to come.
Doesn’t matter.
Their ranking is lower, and they signed up FEWER total three and four stars.
Remember, P5 is all about the DEPTH of your talent.
The more 3/4 stars you sign, the more of it you have.
We signed it, SMU DIDN’T.
As I said, SMU’s #61 ranking speaks for itself.

You didn’t dispute anything I said. The best players are generally gone in December. It’s much harder to land quality players after the early signing period.
But I guess you think these two classes are better than ours and they will continue that average in February.
And Dana was on his way to doing the same.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t look at average recruit ranking. It can provide helpful context.
But relying solely on it doesn’t work.
SMU’s recruiting is far from done. Maybe you can predict the future better than I can, but it appears to me that SMU is leading UH at this point in time. When the spring and summer recruiting activities are completed, I suppose we’ll see who ends up with the better rated class this year.

Your overall score and ranking are FAR better indicators than your average score.
The difference between P5 and G5 is chiefly in the DEPTH of your talent.

How do you figure SMU is “leading?”
They are currently BEHIND UH in the 247 recruiting rankings and have signed FEWER 3/4 stars.
Your statement makes no sense whatsoever, given that.
The opposite is currently true, though I’ll agree that there’s still more recruiting ahead.
I can’t rule out the possibility that SMU might still pull ahead, but they are NOT currently leading.
Why is it so important to compare our recruiting with SMU? CWF has only been on the job for 2 1/2 weeks and just raised our recruiting ranking by approximately 50 spots. Maybe next year we can compare recruiting but it’s seems irrelevant this year.

Because a few people here claimed that SMU’s rich fat cats were going to provide so much NIL that they would out recruit and “surpass” us, much as they had bought their way into the ACC.
We are simply pointing out how WRONG that was.
With only two weeks at our disposal, and probably less NIL…we out recruited SMU.
So much for the theory that SMU would “surpass” us.
Just imagine how much wider the gap would be had we had a whole season to recruit!
