Siren

It sounded absolutely terrible the last time I remember hearing it…the actual siren shouldn’t be the tradition…the sound is what people remember…let’s get one that works that sounds like the old one.

I love the siren its a part of UH football.

I remember my freshman year living in the quad I started hearing the siren going off and had no idea what was going on.

Come to find out there was a football game about to happen that afternoon. (I knew there was a game and was going to it, just wasn’t expecting a siren to be going off before the game)

It was like the way of waking up the campus and getting everyone ready for the games and of course - during the games.

I’m a fan of The Blaze / the air raid siren. To me - it’s UH football.

Iirc the goodyear blimp had its hangar in Spring and then moved to KC or somewhere back in the 90s…

We had an actual air raid siren before Blaze showed up. This was during the Run and Shoot days.

Pass out free ear plugs or mufflers as one enters so they don’t go deaf because of the blaze . . . . .

The siren that played around the City of Houston at 12:00 pm on Fridays until the mid-1980s was a Thunderbolt 1000T. It was initially used during the cold war and was repurposed as a tornado alert system. They are still used across the country. Thunderbolts are known for their “growl” at the end.

This is the alert wail. The wail is held for a couple of minutes before winding down.

This is the attack wail. Continuous hi, low.

They had one at my Elementary school I can still hear it 40 plus years later.

Sounds like Godzilla is about to attack.
