Could these types of decisions hurt enrollment? Or our trek toward AAU?

Good point, but it’s difficult to know for sure how and whether this politically motivated move will affect our journey towards achieving AAU status.
On the bright side (if you wanna see it that way), maybe the school will save up some $$$ by eliminating 40% of classes from core requirements…maybe? 
Since most students enrolling at UH are choosing between other Texas schools who are meeting the same requirements
I’m thinking enrollment will not suffer
I think it may be a good thing that these classes are moved from the core
I’m in favor of more classical core classes and more liberal electives
Allow students to pursue more electives in their degree and have less core requirements but make the core classes very substantial and traditional philosophy, history, literature based courses
Students might not choose them on their own but they should be exposed to these more traditional and classical concepts and then be encouraged to branch out.

I don’t think it will hurt much bc all Texas universities have to cut the same. Like mentioned above , they will take more classical and regular liberal arts classes as electives. They seem to be cutting gender studies etc. Sorta like going back in time a little before they became recent majors. They aren’t cutting English, history, philosophy, psychology etc.
