So How Much NIL Does it Take for Football Annually?

For the blue bloods, I keep hearing $20M/yr. in NIL to pay a football team. Oregon, Texas, Ohio St., Michigan, and Florida. I’ve heard Florida St. is at $15M. Insane. Let’s halve that for UH. I have no idea where UH would get $10M of NIL funding annually.

I believe OSU was at $20M and Ole Miss at $10M.

Where does that money come from?

that’s the odd part - who can fund that kind of cash consistently to basically hired contractors who’ll turn around and ask you for more the next year when basically they never wanted to be at your school? and what metrics are they using to command money?

That kind of money requires a return.

What is the return?

That’s why I think this NIL crap is unsustainable, these business’ want ROI and they are going to get that from a player doing a few commercials or something I just don’t see it long term unless people just want to piss money away to buy Nattys who knows

I think in some states the NIL will be the cost of getting access to state contracts.

It is going to morph into government corruption because that is the only way this kind of money makes sense.

From the Athletic Department’s standpoint, NIL requires resources that universities are just now realizing. Teams are now hiring General Managers strictly to administer NIL, with adequate administrative staffs. If you put NIL under a Recruiting Coordinator or Marketing Director, you are setting yourself up for failure. It needs to be a standalone function. Based on the titles of staff in UH’s Athletic Department Staff Directory, I do not see a dedicated position for NIL. I may be wrong, but that leads me to believe it is being combined with other duties within a job description.

Eddie Nunez hired Allison White to super charge UH’s fund raising. We need to give her time to establish relationships in order for them to yield some results. I am not clear if her solicitation responsibilities include NIL.

I only know G5 for now.

Great G5 team NIL is $750K.
Guessing Liberty spends huge.

As of today - its a pretty penny.
Most have maybe 1/4 of it.

Heard MAC pays @ $3k per player now,
FWIW

There are individual players over a million now.

Supposedly

The huge tv contract drove coaches salaries.

With NIL in place, the tv money now needs to flow to the players.

“Make no mistake: a good quarterback in the portal costs $1 million to $1.5 million to $2 million right now”

Yup.
Thank the football fates we have Old Eagle Eye and staff.
They will stack the frosh/ soph classes enough that an expensive QB MIGHT be an option.

Yes but for UH smart $ is in OL/DL.

Willie Fritz will hit on a young QB.
Alll his past spots had a QB(s).

We lack rich old money alums to pull this off.

Rich old money alums at UT, A&M etc will still contribute to a bad or mediocre team.

I doubt that happens at UH.

NIL is a rich man flex

According to the Austin American Statesman, Arch Manning’s NIL valuation is $3.1M. Clearly the exception rather than the rule, but premier 5 :star: QBs are commanding 7 figures.
