Solomon: How Josh Jones grew into a leader at UH

Jones, who originally committed to Oklahoma State before switching to UH, was among those early Tom Herman recruits who established #HTownTakeover. Two coaches later, the Fort Bend Bush graduate, who has already earned a degree at UH, hopes to be among the leaders who show the city has indeed been taken.

“I feel like Houston (high school) players are more interested and more actually want to come check out what’s going on here,” Jones said. “It’s made a turn for the better.

“I remember you couldn’t even buy new UH merchandise in the store. I wasn’t seeing any posters and banners, but now I feel like they’re everywhere.”

He’s right about this. Even in 2015 you couldn’t find merchandise in retail stores much until after the Peach Bowl win. Even with the average record the last few years, our merch is still in stores and easier to find that just 4 years ago. All is not lost!!!

He’s right about leaders. You can’t just say you’re going to be the leader, you have to demonstrate leadership and it will gradually be given to you. Its the same in business, there’s leaders in every department and project – and they aren’t necessarily the managers. People earn respect of their peers by their actions and character.

I have had those arguments with store managers at malls in this city. Some just simply refuse to order even if people are demanding it. I still remember the Reebox House of Hoops Phi Slams Jama Shoe I couldn’t get at the Galleria Mall…I know what he said IS true.

I’m not buying (pun intended) the conspiracy theory that retailers won’t sell something that people want because they don’t like us.

You don’t have to buy it. I was told that, not you. Your belief changes nothing.

Just trying to help you out DD. Pay no attention to supply and demand economics. It’s just a theory anyway.

I was just at Victoria Secrets with my girl friend last weekend at Baybrook. Looking around I noticed they had a college football theme corner with UH cut off t-shirts. No sight of UT…
