Stadium atmosphere improvements?

Just some ideas I thought might improve the atmosphere a bit (other than winning)

  1. “Houston!” “Cougars!” chant. Why did we stop doing this? Even when the stadium is half full, have the two sides of the stadium yelling in unison was fun.

  2. Have the visiting team come out first. It seems like our team’s entrance gets interrupted or even overwhelmed by the visiting fans and band. Have them go first, then have the Coog fans remind them where they are.

  3. We need a hype song to take the field. This goes back to our team entrance being a little boring.

Just stuff.

Does the Houston Athletics Department purposely try to be inconsistent?

Every time i go, they try something new and ignore the things that are working.

How are we supposed to build a cultural atmosphere?

The OP brings up a perfect example!

The fight song gets played when the team comes out. Agree about the visitors coming out first for the reason you cite. I’d add traffic control. Coming out of the red lot to get in line to go out Scott Street is the longest of waits. The ice in my drink has melted by the time we get out.

These are ALL simple fixes that those 120,000 seat stadium type schools have mastered…we just need our department to care!

It seems like game day atmosphere crew is throwing ideas at the wall like spaghetti and see what sticks.

Honestly, I liked the gameday presentation yesterday a lot. We got the AV issues figured out, and it feels like we took the leash off the DJ and let him do his job. Granted, I missed the first quarter because I was driving back from watching my other team lose in College Station, but it felt yesterday was pretty close to what I’d like to see the gameday atmosphere look like for UH.

Don’t they play welcome to the jungle as they come out of the tunnel?

No that’s part of this years hype video before they come out.

The hype video didn’t completely suck; much improved over the last few years.

That’s our current substitute for actual crowd noise.

My recommendation is avoid Scott Street. The train keeps traffic there backed up, even without football traffic. I pick up a neighbor from Yates in the afternoons, and it’s a pain at 4:30 on a weekday. Add thousands of extra cars for football and it’s not gonna get any better.

There are alternatives.

Well on a side note I received my green parking placards today four games into the season. Really don’t matter because we park in the handicap part of the garage, but geez, really?

They sent an email like two weeks ago saying that they had been mailed out.

I haven’t gotten mine yet. It doesn’t matter to me either, but they should have just saved the printing and mailing money, at this point.

Yeah, we need to figure out something better for traffic control. It’s not nearly the nightmare I’ve seen at some SEC stadia, but this was the first time in over a year that I’ve driven to the game, and even showing up late, getting to the Blue lot was way more difficult than it felt like it needed to be. Navigating Scott Street, in particular, is impossible.

If we were an exciting team that was consistently winning then we could play Dolly Parton and the crowd would get hyped.

In terms of our Alma Mater, let the band play our traditional song. Then play the hip hop version that Paul Wall, Slim Thug and Bun B made back in 2011. That song was awesome!!

Play that on the loud speaker and watch what happens. Especially against UT.
