Starting to worry about US Soccer in the World Cup

Our men’s national team was getting pasted 4-0 by Switzerland in the first half.

I hope this isn’t the shape of things to come in the next WC.

Some of us have been worried for a long time.

Good thing we didn’t have to go through WC qualifiers this time bc we host. If we keep playing like we are, we won’t get advance out of our group.

What are the chances Poch gets sacked if the U.S. has an abysmal Gold Cup performance?

Why worried they suck every World Cup

This team is regressing badly.

I wouldn’t say that.

We made the knockout round more than once and even made the final eight at least once in my lifetime (2002 in Japan)…

Things aren’t looking so good this far though.

Lol. I got too many other sports to worry about.

It’s sad honestly. We are so bad in soccer. You have to have money to play serious soccer in the USA at a young age.

I started watching the game and very quickly realized we were out matched.

bigtime worries with team USA

Well that’s understandable against a country that has almost 9 million people.

Switzerland has the population of the Houston metro area, plus it’s almost 10x the size of Harris County (even if very little of that land is flat enough for a soccer pitch).

How can we expect to compete against a team with those resources?

We lost to a country of watchmakers and bankers.

We better hope we get an easy group in the World Cup or we will only play 3 games.

Until they put a blind man at goal or 2 midgets as goalies, I won’t be watching a minute of soccer

Its not the program. Its our country. Just because you happen to have the best athletes doesn’t mean you field the best team.

We are not a soccer country comparatively speaking. Our kids sleep under blankets that say Steelers and Cowboys…not Arsenal and Barcelona.

It’s a great sport, you’re missing out Coach!

It’s great for taking a nap to.

ZERO.

I know they have sucked but he is being set up to fail at this point.

Not sure what people expect when you are missing 8-9 starters and playing with MLS scrubs.

And Pulisic is soft….and every other guy that “passed” to rest.

Unless you are injured you should be playing especially when you are ONE YEAR from the WC that you are hosting.

The Gold Cup should have been a win or final at the least……but with most of the real team missing they will be lucky to make the semis against horrible competition.

Why bother posting on this thread?

Opened up a soccer thread to tell everyone you don’t like it….cool.

I wouldn’t say that. He is coming off a grueling season of Serie A soccer. Besides, it’s not like the Gold Cup is the Euro’s or the Copa America. It’s a mediocre tournament where it’s all set up for it to be USA vs Mexico in the final.

The best way to describe the way we are in men’s soccer is that I was a youth soccer coach in the 90’s and a travel team assistant coach shortly after. If the I was the best they could do as a coach, says volumes. It’s gotten better, but it takes years to develop a program.

Interestingly enough, the girls were much more into soccer those days than the boys, fewer options. Maybe that’s why the Women’s National teams have had more success.

My claim to fame is two girls I coached for multiple years received D1 scholarships. I take no credit for their skills, but take pride in the fact I may have helped them love the sport.
