Stress, Shoulder Tension

I’ve realized recently that I have really bad muscle tension in my shoulders. Likely from stress, and such. Besides a massage or regular massages, what do yall do to ease or avoid that?

Dead hangs can help a ton. Try it out!

Probably need to cut out the “and such”.

Yeah, shave your palms and cut out the ‘and such’

Cypress Hill had a great meditative suggestion back in the day…

“Inhale… Exhale…”

For more tips on relaxation, check out their song, “Hits from the Bong”.

Vodka

Sounds like hippie drippy BS, but you might want to look at meditation. The Daily Calm app is good for simple guided meditations, often focused on relaxing stress tightened muscles.

And that is, your dispatch from the West Coast that will be laughed at in Texas.

Nah lots of people do meditation in Houston. Certainly something to consider.

Stay off of coogfans for a few days and your stress will melt
away; alternatively, spend more time on coogfans to avoid the other
stressers in your life.

That will be $0.05.

I have the same issue. Physical Therapist gave me a few stretch exercises. (1 Ilike the best) Using an elastic band attached in front of you to solid stand of some sort, with forearms parallel to floor, pull your elbows as far back as possible, bringing the muscles, between shoulder blades as close to your spine as possible. Hold for 5 seconds and repeat 10 times, 3 sets.

So it was bad enough that you saw a physical therapist?

Airrosti has helped me with a couple of issues over the last 4 years. I think they’re great.

All they do is therapy and rehab. Both issues I had, they gave me some stretches and exercises to do at home, and I came out better than I was before the injury.

Yours was inury related? Mine, I wouldn’t say is injury related.

Don’t you need a doctor’s order to get PT?

Probably from looking down at screens. Stretching your head and shoulders back 10 reps at a time 5 - 10 times/day will alleviate the issue. I got that from a chiropractor and it worked.

Most likely.

ok

I have the same kinds of things going on.

No referral needed at Airrosti. They’re independent, you can just walk in (well, make an appointment, of course).

They do take my insurance, which was nice. But when I was paying out of pocket a few years back I don’t recall it being overly expensive.

I would recommend them for any muscle pain.

Suggest prevention over treatment. If your workspace is not properly aligned
you put undue stress on body components. Talking about things like proper chair, height, monitors at correct height, desk height, and angle , proper posture when sitting for extended periods, etc …some folks use foot wedges to help maintain alignment.
Office ergonomics is a real thing. Several youtube videos out there on office ergonomics; I don’t personally endorse any , but they seem as good as the corporate ones I did.

Have someone assess your alignment if available.

Mine is partly due to muscle imbalance, chest pulls neck forward and shoulders get overworked trying to compensate. Rowing, shoulder presses even if they’re low weight for high reps, stretches. If you can’t get massages all the time, lean against the wall with a baseball on the spot to work things out.

I also get triggered by Nespresso or some kinds of zero sugar coke or energy drinks, after a few days of them building up in my system. Regular Dr pepper and regular coffee no issues. Maybe consider an elimination diet to figure out if something is inducing stress reactions.
