Tank Dell

Tank is back practicing! All indications are he won’t play until the Giants game. Question: Should he even play if the Texans are out of it? They may already be finished but there’s still a little hope.

Texans probably play him as much as possible.
Tank redid his deal. He is UFA after this season.

If there is an opportunity for him to play, he’s likely going to play.

He also needs to put some film together, should he remain a Texan or get traded.

I hope he stays.

If he sustains another injury, I suspect his NFL career will be toast.

He’s tough, no doubt about it, but his small stature and previous injuries probably has rendered his NFL career to be shorter than anyone anticipated.

If you believe the media reports from those who follow the Texans closely, Tank’s speed and quickness, which gave him the ability to create separation from coverage, has diminished.

I hope for his continued success despite the circumstances.

Tank wants to play so bad, wild horses couldn’t stop him.

He is small and skinny, and that is a problem on paper for sure. However, he has had 3 injuries that were abnormal (1 of which was stupidity on play calling)

  1. Making Tank Dell block on a goal line play (this was the dumbest thing the staff could’ve made him do. No other coach would make Tank Dell block a goal line run)
  2. He got shot at a party (self explanatory)
  3. He caught a pass and essentially got trampled (this would’ve injured any player regardless of size)

I would LOVE to see Dell play again. Having said that, injuries themselves are cumulative. These athletes are nearly off the Bell curve but injuries add up over time.

If a guy can’t block he won’t stay in the NFL for long.

Abnormal, circumstantial, stupid play calling or otherwise…

Injuries are injuries and they all have a detrimental effect on the body.

None of his injuries are his fault, but football is a precarious life occupation and life has never guaranteed personal safety.

According to the NFL Combine, Tank was 5’8 3/8", and 165 lbs. (Not 5’10" as been widely reported.) Players that size get injured. I would be very surprised if Tank played an entire season without injury. You knew that drafting him. Dell is not an every down WR. Too much risk of injury. He can still be a very valuable part of the Houston Texans.

Every nfl player inflates their height by 2-3 inches

And very few of them make it through a season without injury, regardless of how tall they are. Nico Collins has probably missed 1/4 of the Texans games since he started.

I would make the assumption that most nfl players are injured in some capacity by week 2-3 through the rest of the season

There is nagging pains somewhere in the body that they fight through

Tanks injury was a fluke play by another Texan player. It could happen to anyone at any time. Tank is one tough guy and has played through pain a lot. I certainly hope he can come back and keep on playing. But he has earned more money playing than most people make in a lifetime, so he should be able to do well after this year if is his last in the NFL.

According to Spotrac, Dell’s career earnings total $5,793,323 through the 2026 season Spotrac.comSpotrac.com.

That a good cushion to start regular employment.

On the play he was injured they had him motion and then block in the B gap IIRC. Nuts for a guy his size to be in a pileup with several
300 lb guys.

I really hope he comes back 100% but I have my doubts. I will be wincing every time he gets hit.

I so hope that Tank can come back, but it will be nearly miraculous if he’s able to return to an effective level of play after the catastrophic injury he sustained. As a Coog and a Texans fan it would be so cool if he makes it back. Lots of people rooting for you, Tank!

Tank with the rare ability to accelerate as he cut.
If that is done. He still has his hands and route savvy.

A Cole Beasley type role is my hope.
@ the same size.
Cole made @ $39 million.

Texans made Tank a UFA after this season.
Hope for the best & he comes back but they aren’t holding on to him.

I have my doubts that Tank is going to be a lesser player.

It’s been almost two years since he was injured and last played. Yet, the Texans speak highly of his work and progress.

Moreover, NFL teams buy out contracts (injury buyouts or settlements) all the time. Instead, the Texans have carried Tank for a long time even though he’s a non-producing hit on the salary cap.

If Tank has lost speed or quickness, I doubt they’d hang onto him because the limits already placed on him by his small size.

No doubt, he’s going to be rusty since he hasn’t played contact football for nearly two years. But that’s different from diminished.

We’ll see, but not a big fan of crap floating around on the internet.
