Who has gotten their tankless water heaters replaced recently? The quotes I’m getting are outrageous!
I’ve been considering replacing my conventional electric water heater with a tankless to free up room for some remodeling.
What kind of quotes are you getting?
$7k+ to replace 2 Rinnai units.
The units are available from amazon. They are around $1500 each. So $4K to install? crazy.
On top of the initial installation, there are some other costs to keep in mind with tankless. Depending on the quality of your water, they will need to be descaled about once a year. I have a water softener, so I don’t have to do it as frequently. So make sure it’s installed in a place that’s easy to access if you plan on doing it yourself. Otherwise plan on paying a plumber to do it. Don’t skimp on the ancillary things like a good overflow pan, etc. I got a small commercial Navien unit and it’s been doing great supplying hot water to our house and mother-in-law apartment. That’s 3.5 baths and 2 kitchens.
I had mine installed during my remodel, so I had them include a hot water loop with a pump. It keeps the water at the tap constantly hot. All in it was 2500-3000.
I got one installed for $2800 by a local plumber. Home depot wanted 6k plus.
How many years of service did you get out of those units ?
And as previously asked, do you have a water softener or do yearly PM on them ?
But yes those prices seem high to me.
They are 16 years old. I have a softener. Never had the flushes done. I could get them fixed but the new ones are so much more technologically advanced I’d like to upgrade.
Tankless water heater installers = the new hedge fund managers
They are easy to install especially the condensing ones. You can use your existing flu. You just need someone to run the connections and condensate drain
I don’t see how replacing one with a like kind would be any big deal that you couldn’t do yourself. All you have to do is turn off the gas and water and then just disconnect the existing and reconnect the new. The difficult job would be the descaling. I got that done for $200.
Disagree. Descaling is simple with just hoses, pump, bucket and descaler (or vinegar); about $70 total on Amazon. Then annually about $10 for descaler or vinegar.
Update. I found a company to install my self bought tanks (from amazon of all places) for $1100.
I would have done it for $1099 Norb.
