I don’t know how many here remember the Taxi Squad and Cougar Cagers, but it would really be nice to have them again. I still have my pin.
Has this been replaced by the weekly coach’s show at a restaurant?
Still have my pin, but lost my hat many years ago.
Mike I was a member of the Taxi Squad. Do you remember the meetings at the River Oaks County Club with CBY and the coaching staff ? I wish the young Coog fans today could experience those great times. It was awesome !
Go Coogs…beat the "cats !
Taxi Squad was awesome!
Why did it go away?
Robert,
I remember a CBY comment at a UH FB gathering. He said that once we started beating Texas et al in the SWC, we were not invited back to the River Oaks.Yes, we really dissed by all the negativity . That put a damper on our fun factor with the Taxi Squad .
Go Coogs !
Thanks!
This should be put back together. Call it whatever.
Cougar Alums meeting for lunch and listening to our Coaches.
we were not invited back to the River Oaks
Hell with the River Oaks, Mr. Tillman might just build a “Cougar Oaks” and we would all be just fine.
Glen, when I joined the Taxi Squad it had luncheon meetings at Sonny Looks on South Main and later at the Marriot on 610 just north of the Galleria. It wasn’t part of a radio show, just Taxi Squad members, coaches, and sometimes a few players. Coach would give us all the info we needed and breakdown the upcoming games.
It was a lot of fun and allowed us to meet other Coogs. That’s how I came to be friends with some guys like Jim Gammage, Willie Burns, and Bud Hayden. Still miss those guys.
Ah,the good old days !
Robert,
I would guess the Alumni Association still owns the name “Taxi Squad”. This name, if I recall correctly, was coined by Coach BY! It would be a really great thing for a group of young Alumni to start the Taxi Squad up again. Just a casual lunch time group that meets during game week for lunch and some really cool updates from Coach and staff. The time spent together in that gathering gives one the feeling of being close to the UH Football program and fellow Coogs. Hope it happens.
Go Coogs !
