TDECU Stadium Renovations & Expansions

I thought it was said before that the stadium could be increased in increments up to 60,000 max with the current design. Others here can correct me if that is incorrect.

I think the new football ops building might have cut into that 60k number.

I seriously doubt that UH will ever really need more than ~45,000 seats in TDECU Stadium.

Some day, we may want to redo the east end-zone seating and maybe modify the north-side upper deck of the stadium to include some more air-conditioned club seats…but that’s about it.

Yes, capacity can increase to 60K, but I doubt we will get there.
I’m giving UH football a deadline at the end of 2035 to make a final decision to increase capacity or not.
If we don’t have 5 straight years of season ticket sellouts and a waitlist by 2035, then our window of expansion is over with.

This next decade is the most crucial with the move to the Big 12 and millions of dollars coming in.
If we cannot increase our core fanbase the next decade, then the stadium capacity will stay as is.

I rather we go the way of keeping the stadium at about 45K capacity.
I don’t see our core fanbase increasing any time soon.

Ever since we opened up 10 years ago in 2014, I can only count on one hand the number of sellouts or the stadium being full.

2014 opener vs UTSA
2015 vs Memphis
2015 vs Navy
2016 vs Louisville
2023 vs Texas

By the time UH is able to attract 60,000 fans on a consistent basis, UH will probably need a new stadium anyway.

A roof, enough bathrooms, elevators and escalators please.

I think 60k is definitely the sweet spot. Do I see it happening anytime soon? Nope

I think there is 0% chance we enlarge the stadium on the north or south sides. The upperdecks are currently set so far back any higher decks would need to have seat issued binoculars creating a very low return on investment. I could definitely see us rebuilding or enlarging the end zones, adding amenities and tinkering with the current seating to add premium seating.

I think the new restrooms and concessions in the new endzone facility that will connect to the upperdeck is going to be a big hit (i.e. long lines) and they are going to have to find a way to add more.

Now can we get a bobblehead already…

Before expansion, they can improve what’s already there. Escalators to the 300 deck. Concessions/ restrooms to the upper decks.

Honestly, having the biggest stadium is stupid. We aren’t Aggies or in the SEC. But we can have one of the nicest stadiums with not a bad seat in the house… just make thoughtful improvements along the way.

Nobody is complaining about Fertitta Center except those without tickets. TDECU can be the same.

Why in the world do they not use better pics of the stadium in the article? There are plenty of pics with fuller crowds.

The initial 60k expansion plan was to remove and rebuild the third deck on the north side.and add third decks to the east and west endzones. With the west end zone construction it is no longer possible to expand to 60k. But the north grandstand and east end zone can still be expanded.

They photographed it during the AAC years.

The most capacity we can expand to now would be 50k to 55k.

We don’t really need more seats but moving the media to the upper north side and building out the current media suites to luxury seating does make sense

I’m sure that if they really wanted to, they could still expand to 60k. They have the south, east and west grandstands that they could tear down/ add to.

I’ve always said this, just aggie engineer it, re-stripe the bleachers narrower Boom, more seats!

Yes, but then you would be required to stand sideways for the entire game ……whoop :sunglasses:

For the love of goodness no, one thing I can’t stand about NRG is the canned sardine seats.

I don’t see how we will need a whole new stadium for a very, very long time. TDECU already has the foundational support plans for expansion of the north side and the east end zone. If you look at the east end zone, you can see the column bases projecting above the roof of the building. But need for a 60K stadium is way down the road IMHO. As for a roof; forget about that unless someone coughs up over a billion dollars.

Easy solution. Every season ticket gets free Ozempic with purchase.
