Look at it this way…if we got 10K new fb season ticket holders, again hopefully youngsters (25-40, and yes they are young to me…), wherever they are located, they are contributing, becoming part of base, which HAS to expand…
So yeah. If anyone contributes, each year, especially with ANY kind of season ticket, every single dollar counts.
We need fannies in the seats, any way we can get em…
I firmly believe that not everyone that accepts a scholarship to play football or basketball does so with the expectation of making a profession out of the sport. Some, and many of those in the G schools, go to those schools for the education . . . . .
No they don’t - they go cause it’s an fbs opportunity- bottom line - some of those schools barely draw
If Jackson State was FBS and going against those same schools the would go there but since it’s FCS they weigh their options - a kid try their luck at a Texas State/ULM cause their sold it’s an FBS opportunity but normally those are their lone FBS offers
It’s like Kansas football - most kids at Kansas are there strictly cause it was their lone P5 offer but they’re G5 players if that - it’s a trickle down effect
With NIL your now forcing an alum to choose between school endeavors or keeping kids happy in the short term -
This money has been flowing for a long tine. Now the players have to pay taxes on it.
I am hoping that bringing the money above the table will finally puts some limitations on it. BUT lets face it if you put limits on how much to give to a player a school will get around that by paying the limit above the table and more under the table.
True…but the real problem as I see it, is that the Transfer Portal coupled with NIL, both came to pass roughly at the same time, a time where the NCAA was (and is now) feckless and self neutered…
There are very few limitations on the Portal, and even less on NIL…
And this situation is giving cover for the SEC/Big to create their own governance for FB.
Which will be a huge negative for everyone not in those conferences…
Seems that most of the “talk” like interviews at media days is actually pretty inclusive, because the P5 (4, 3, 2, 1) and G6 (7, 8, 9, 10) are part of FBS for now. The SEC and B1G will get others to go along with changes to FBS governance. These will suit the big money teams more than the rest, but general agreement will provide some protective cover.
