I wasn’t sure if this really fit one of our other related threads or if it was its own issue.
I’ve also heard of businesses trying to take legal action against bad (but not malicious) yelp reviews before. Both seem crazy to me, unless someone is truly misrepresenting or spreading demonstrably false info.
UnitedHealth appears eager to make a similar example of Elisabeth Potter, an Austin, Texas, plastic surgeon, and is accusing the doctor of “using her social media following to perpetuate inaccuracies, which is irresponsible, unethical, and dangerous.” On Jan. 7, Potter posted a video on Instagram sharing her frustration with the U.S. insurance system, explaining in a text caption that during a procedure, “I was interrupted by a call from United Healthcare — while the patient was already asleep on the operating table. They demanded information about her diagnosis and inpatient stay justification. I had to scrub out mid-surgery to call United, only to find that the person on the line didn’t even have access to the patient’s full medical information, despite the procedure already being pre-approved.
I think we are entering dangerous times with regard to companies going after individuals for sharing their experience or opinion about a product or brand.
Can Yelp be held liable for hosting a negative review?
SLAPP suits are another tool in the Devil’s toolbox. The law should be any company that files a SLAPP lawsuit, there entire legal department, CEO, and board should be publicly caned Singapore style.
They don’t care about losing money, but public pain and humiliation would send a great message.
Also seems like a great time to post this for the original King of these lawsuits. I hope he’s looking up as I post this
That 4x crashing report is really shocking.
I’m sure lots of those were probably slight bumps in parking , or the Tesla being stopped(hopefully legally) and being hit. But not all of them.
There is such a rush to dominate this emerging service, I’m not sure adequate oversight by the government is taking place.
And that applies to all these- waymo, tesla, etc.
I don’t think there’s any oversight, really. If there is, it’s been relaxed to the point of being useless.

The oversight generally seems to be reactive and not proactive, in my opinion. With things like vehicle safety, I think it should be more proactive. That goes for EV & ICE vehicles from every manufacturer. The current administration is absolutely on the side of less regulation (though in some areas they are still flexing the regulatory muscles in new ways) which in theory sounds great. In actuality, we really need a more nuanced approach. Not everything needs or should have less regulation.

He is a bad person, but that’s not really the same thing.
Just like Henry Ford being a bad person doesn’t diminish his innovations or business accomplishments. Elon’s the same way. Bad person, doesn’t take away from things he and his companies have done

The haters can’t control themselves.
None of these articles would have come out just a few years ago. We all know why they are coming now.
