Texans Football

What he said about Swifties was completely out of line and anyone should take offense. He said, “Swifties can LIX my balls.” That is basically an insult to all of the young who are Taylor Swift fans, which of course includes Kelce. This man may be a great safety, but he has no class.

Whatevs. Sounds like locker room talk. People are way too sensitive.

Yeah, it’s mild trash talk. I don’t mind it one bit. It’s disrespectful as hell in a context where that’s totally fine.

I dunno man.

Seems a bit over the top and crude.

No question, but that is trash talk. If he sacks Mahomes and gets 5 INTs this season, we will all cheer.

Yeah, it may be trash talk, but I’m an old fashioned guy that remembers when there was no trash talking in games, maybe just a taunt or too. I remember when good sportsmanship was an important aspect of sports.

Call me a boomer, or whatever else you wish, but I hate all of this trash talk, chest pounding, me, me, me crap in football. Basketball seems to be doing just fine without it.

What about J’Wan’s “Too small” gesture?

Not sure what basketball you’re watching but it’s possibly even worse than football.

Everyone does the “too small”……it’s prevalent in HS.

There was never a time when football players didn’t talk trash. Nostalgic for an era that never was

I know. I just wanted Mike thoughts on that based on his post above.

Right. Dick Butkus was a notorious trash talker.

Mike Singletary was, as well.

The only thing that makes it different today is that these guys have non-stop media coverage, multiple camera angles on every bit of gameplay, and social media to share their jawing with the world.

I watch every Coog game and I don’t see it. Heck, Milos got a technical for just looking at the opposition’s bench with a smug look on his face.

I guess I have never noticed. But is that really trash talk or how about holding up the 3 symbol on a 3 point shot? It’s not like jawing in a guys ear all the way down the field or walking back to the huddle. I also realize that tempers can flare during physical games and getting into another’s face. But that is not the same as a WR trashing a defender all the way back to the line of scrimmage and vice versa.

When I played football back in the 50’s and 60’s, there was absolutely no trash talking, but there were a couple of fights, but that’s not many during a season.

It’s kind of disrespecting the opponent.

I know you never played D ick Butkus but he played in 60s and said this about trash talking
View on trash-talking:
Butkus views trash-talking as an incentive to play well and a way to “stamp of approval” that he did what he tried to do.

There has never been a time where competitors didn’t brag and boast of their atheletic prowess over their competition. You can go all the way back to the original Olympics.

“They did not fight for a cause. They were bragging, bickering individualists out for personal glory. That is why they needed prizes: not for their own sake, but as measures of achievement”
