Is burning fossil fuels somehow holy? Some may think so. The pivot to renewables is frequently awkward, expensive, frustrating, and at times economically disadvantageous. China, India, everyone is still doing X, Y, and Z.
So what? Is slowing climate change a desirable goal or not? I’m all for finding better paths, smoother transitions, but the road will be bumpy nonetheless.
I couldn’t tell you, but the deniers keep coming up with so many different ways to justify their views. All I know is we used up a lot of stored carbon. I’m not a greenie but I remember what it was like before the EPA happened. There’s got to be some sort of balance we can come up with.
lol. Do yo understand how a combustion engine works? Or a coal/natural gas power plant works? I know that its science, and you’re a science denier, but come on.
Dat was Ben dun by collage in commifornia with there instrumentationals and fancy measurmints. And it don’t not even count if they is the ones doing it
He has no understanding of the carbon cycle or how the planet naturally handles CO2. Doesn’t grasp that man made CO2 has no means of being exchanged and is the issue. The planet has had its own carbon cycle with CO2 since the start, never had increasing levels in the air until humans started producing mass amounts of it over the last 100 years. Climate change is not a big issue for me, but tired of seeing stupid people say dumb things over and over.
Letter submitted by a reader no less that makes this ridiculous claim.
To the editor:
The Feb. 3 and 14 letters express grave climate consequences due to man-made carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
About 3.2% of all CO2 in the atmosphere is man-made. (DOE 2000). About 44% of man-made CO2 is coming from coal-fired power plants worldwide. (U.S. Energy Information Administration, 2019), so that makes coal-fired CO2 about 1.4% of total CO2 in the atmosphere.
Not sure if this reflects poorly on the Echo Press or not. They clearly state it’s a readers
opinion.
I don’t know how far off the 3% is but it probably misses the point. The earth did a good job of balancing the ins and outs before fossil fuels. So while there may be a lot of emissions, there are a lot offsetting them (trees, oceans).
Everything we do with fossil fuels is largely incremental and not, currently, being offset. We are working on some of that though.
Good article on coming recycling boom. Reminiscent of e-waste which is equally toxic.
Looks like in 2004 California started to put in legislation to help deal with E-waste recycling.
That’s about 20-25 years after the PC/electronics started to be everywhere, even the home.
E-waste” refers to any unwanted electronic device or Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) and is classified as universal waste. E-waste frequently contains hazardous materials, predominantly lead and mercury, and is produced by households, businesses, governments, and industries. Typical e-waste devices include but are not limited to:
Archie brings up the fact that we were sold all of these electrical appliances and electrical use has skyrocketed (also emissions). Crazy how much of his speech applies to today.
