Attendance for the week was 159,560, a significant drop over the last 10 years and second lowest since the State Finals moved to a single site. Houston had worse attendance in 2015 coming in at 156,143.
DFW homers are blaming the CFP but attendance has been declining over the last few years. The lack of Houston powerhouse schools certainly hurt, but with Highland Park, SOC, Southlake Carroll, and North Crowley there was enough DFW presence to bring in the big crowds.
I think Jerry World has lost its luster and game day prices have gone through the roof. It’s time to rotate the Championship games between Houston, San Antonio, and Arlington.
I wish Austin or Waco had an indoor stadium as it is more central than Dallas. I think it would be fair to rotate games with Houston and San Antonio. DCTF headquarters is in Dallas I believe.
The complaint for Houston and SA is they don’t have 4 locker rooms and AT&T stadium is so nice…
I was in a nice radio suite doing the game. After the game I got pictures with Greg Tepper and Matt Stepp.
That’s a farce - when the UIL guy who forgot to notify the cowboys in the mid 2010s of the date and it went to Houston they quietly demoted him as a result
SMG - who manages NRG - them and the UIL didn’t see eye to eye at the time and they claimed they were absorbing all types of extra costs
I was at Jerry World this week to see my Ganado Indians win their first state championship! Anyway, $20 tickets to get in were reasonable enough but the $25 parking seems a bit high but I guess for NFL stadium standards these prices are very low.
Doing some math - 160,000 x $20/ticket + 40,000 cars x $25/car plus let’s say $10/person/concessions is a shade under $6M gross revenue. They do have to staff and run 4 full days of games so it isn’t a huge money maker all things told for Jerry but it is on days Jerry wouldn’t be using the stadium otherwise. Personally I wish there was a rotation between SA, Dallas, and Houston. If attendance keeps dropping I wouldn’t be surprised if Jerry complains and a rotation starts back up.
This should be correct but tell me if im off with some of the regions etc. This might be the first time in a while Dallas area was almost shutout of a title in the big 4 classes (5A/6A)
A friend of mine flew in from Washington State and my brother/sister flew in from Virginia and DC. It was great to see multiple teams win their 1st title.
Supposedly higher attendance helps the schools. I’d like to know how the proceeds are divided among 22 schools.
Anyway its time to rotate. That’s the fair way to do it.
Matt Stepp and Greg Tepper are good guys but they are huge DFW homers. That entire TV crew is from DFW and it shows. They were hoping and praying (out loud) that SOC would come back against Richmond Randle.
It’ll have to be new leadership before it happens - Dallas is in the UIL’s pockets when it comes to football
Basketball interest has declined as a whole and the move to San Antonio has killed the state boys tourney and it’s worse for girls - but UIL won’t move
This is the same uil who won’t institute a shot clock
I posted on my FB pictures with Greg Tepper and Matt Stepp after our game. I got some paper towels with Cowboys logo in our suite. I gave them to a buddy of mine in Ganado yesterday.
