I don’t know what the answer is, but I think we should all be aware of this problem. On one hand, we hate to restrain commerce, on the other hand we need to have clean water and I’m not so sure our current method of pumping it into the ground is not going to come back and haunt us in the future. I hope someone will come up with some novel way to treat this that balances the commerce and environmental factors.
Not wanting to restrain commerce and not wanting to consume dirty water doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive but when it is sign me up for not wanting to consume dirty water.
Make recycling and conservation profitable is hard but not impossible if there’s a will. It doesn’t have to be profitable though just economically feasible then problem solved. I agree a lot more study is needed.
Kicking the can down the road is very shortsighted.
Edit: old age affects my memory. Forgot most important point and that is this generation seems to not care about future generations like they should. It’s like I’m ok so I don’t care about them.

I believe they’re already allowing “treated” water to be openly discharged into rivers, unless that was paused.
And our Texas RR Comissioner thinks that this wastewater is “a gift from God” so there’s that.
It’ll be awesome to add those radioactive isotopes from produced water into our water supply.

The companies will be pushing hard to not do the expensive testing. Don’t have a good feeling about how this will play out with TCEQ monitoring the process.
