I asked chatgpt…why are people who get their information on furries from FB so fearful.
Some portrayals of the furry community in mainstream media have focused on potentially negative stereotypes, such as associating it with sexual deviancy or social ineptitude.
There can be a generational gap in understanding of subcultures and changing social norms, leading to older adults being confused or uncomfortable with things that are popular among younger generations.
Anything that deviates from traditional norms can trigger fear or anxiety in some individuals, especially those who are less open to new experiences or have strong adherence to traditional values.
Activities like cosplaying as animals or participating in online forums may be misinterpreted as something more sinister or harmful by those unfamiliar with the community.
Older generations have a long history of misunderstanding and literally demonizing things kids are into out of fear, ignorance and change.
If they want to pretend they are an animal and it is not disrupting other kids in school, how is it a problem? Why should things that should be handled by parents again be legislated?
Because we need Big Government telling people what to do?
But in reality as demonstrated by this legislation, and it’s defenders they’ve allowed themselves to be terminally online to the point with any sort of potentially reinforcing dopamine release can be turned into a real issue where none exists. But also for the real power players, “fear of the other” has always been an incredibly effective tool to manipulate and control.
A furrie is someone who is interested in and identifies with anthropomorphic animal characters, often developing their own unique furry character (fursona).
Seriously though, I clearly remember first hearing of a “furry” via a documentary style tv show maybe in the early 2000’s or so. Per that show…aside from the obvious (the costume), the premise of the “lifestyle” was the stated appeal to the participants of having anonymous (sometimes public?) sex with strangers also living the furry lifestyle. Seems like the episode I saw was covering a handful of different furries traveling to Vegas each literally looking for in-costume furry sex.
I don’t know if it was being driven by some agenda, or just scandal for ratings. But it was clearly aimed to be taken seriously. I’m not claiming any slant on it other than I do remember that show focused on the sexual angle of it all. And I hadn’t really heard about furries since then until this thread.
Maybe some one knows what that show or series was.
Edit…it might have been one episode in the series documenting things like the prostitution houses in San Fransisco, strippers in Oregon, or topics like that. Maybe the term “Yiff” is the subset the show overed?
Why would you get banned for naming a school and location where this supposedly happened? Y’all keep claiming this happened without backing it up and it’s ridiculous. Not even the author of the bill in question could specify where this happened. You’re more informed than a state legislator and other statewide officials? gmafb
To be fair have seen the majority of this state’s reps? It’s an exceedingly low bar
But I will say, saying you have evidence and withholding the evidence is not exactly an aid to one’s credibility. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
No it did happen lol, i called someone else. We laughed, talked about how messed up talking to people about education or politics in public these days. We agreed to not bring attention to it, no need.
