Attendance is a red herring. A way for Texas Tech to deflect all the negative attention they rightly received for recruiting and advocating for a known gambler. It seems to be working. Negative mentions of Tech’s advocacy for their troubled quarterback and the fact that the Big 12 was scheduled to meet and vote on their dismissal from the Big 12 are gone. Replaced by our attendance and ‘shouldn’t Houston be the school kicked out?’ So do not buy into the attendance nonsense. It is a rhetorical trick to focus attention away from the actual bad actors. And remember this, no matter how many people show up Saturday or anytime, it will never be enough.
I think the Brendan Sorsby story has jumped the shark. It had a beginning and end. No one is talking about it anymore nationally because it is not a story.
UH’s attendance is a current story that can be quieted with a big crowd against Oklahoma St. I expect the negative attendance story will be revived with a disappointing crowd for Cincinnati, who has not drawn well in Houston. Baylor will draw a bigger crowd, and hopefully, UH Athletics will be faced with the challenge of getting UH fans to buy bowl tickets.
Yeah, it’s a “story” because it looks bad on TV and because social media loves to run with it. That’s it. It’s not some made-up boogeyman - it’s just the same regurgitated stuff that gets responses.
I don’t think dismissal was ever on the table. But really, the Sorsby issue is over, what is there to talk about it?
At 5 and 1 right now, I think it’s safe to say we will go to a bowl since it only takes six wins. We aren’t worried about a bowl game, we are setting our sights on the CCG and CFP.
