Four

With a population between 125,000 and 150,000 at the time of its admission into the Union in 1845, Texas was allotted two representatives in the U.S. House. Its two U.S. senators brought the state’s electoral vote total to four. In 1848, more than 70% of voter-backed electors pledged to Democrat Lewis Cass, despite Whig candidate Gen. Zachary Taylor’s exploits in the Mexican-American War.
