Uconn got their program up to FBS and are in the American now. Bringing those schools in would be an easier transition from FCS to FBS while still allowing their basketball programs to thrive.

You donât add Villanova, Georgetown and Butler for football, you add them for basketball but the American has to have something to offer them in order for them to want to make the move. Moving their programs up to FBS to allow them to get football revenue is a way to go.
I think you are confused on what makes a football team an FBS football team. It has nothing to do with the basketball teamâs conference affiliation.
I know what makes a football team FBS but it does matter at this point. UH just needs to learn to deal with being in the AAC. At this point thatâs as good as going to get for quite a while.
I agree. UH is stuck at the AAC for the foreseeable future. Letâs make the best of it , and try to lure recruits by staying close to home and sell them the brand new facilities.

You just said itâŠ5 to 6 years at the earliest. If true, itâs no guaranteed that we move to a P5 conference. It might be just 4 big conferences by then, and UH is left out once more.

We are not in a P5 and that affects all of our programs including basketball and Baseball. Golf is another area that has gone down dramatically. We are better with these three programs now but they are not even close to their heydays.
Just compare the recruits that we got when we were part of the SWC and now. We gotta aim for the top but our hands are tied and WE are not in control of our own destiny. That is the most frustrating part about this ncaa scam.
As a competitor you want to aim for the top. We canât as long as we are not in a P5.
Yes, but football gets screw the most for the reasons I listed. Itâs UH moneymaker, and most beloved sport if you go by attendance. Basically, all of UH resources, and efforts, go to the football program.
Golf didnât go down because our conference status. It dropped off after Dave Williams retired and then more after Keith Fergus resigned. UH caught lightning in a bottle with Yeoman, Lewis and Williams and unfortunately we didnât take advantage of it by building a larger fan base. Remaining a commuter school through all of their success kept the school in the dark ages.

âŠand UH baseball team is really good this year, and young! Theyâre one of the favorite teams that could make it to Omaha. Plus, their 2017 & 18 recruiting classes are pretty stacked with talent.
We need to focus on being the best damn P5 program in the country. If we do that good things will happen.
Personally, I believe that in order to make the AAC a clear P6 it is necessary to increase $ by increasing TV inventory, get an auto-bid to a NY6 bowl and lastly, but very important, is to make moves that clearly add separation between us and the G4. What it really comes down to is can we get enough money from ESPN and other outlets to make it happen. I think the number has to be in the 15 million dollar range for all sports members, 10-12 million for football members and 3-5 million for Olympic sports members. IMO, I would do something like this:
East: UC, UCONN, ECU, UCF, USF, Temple, Tulane, Army (FB), VCU (Oly)
West: UH, Tulsa, SMU, Memphis, Navy (FB), BYU, Boise (FB), AF (FB), Wichita State (Oly)
Not saying it should layout this way, personally I really enjoy going to NO every other year. Memphis could go east. This gives us 16 FB members and 14 Olympic members. I would add BYU all sports because they have a good BB history and bring TV eyeballs. Exposure is also very important to BYU. But if BYU wanted FB only, then we add Dayton and re-work the divisions. Bringing in the all of the Academies brings TV viewers. This brings a ton of cache for TV in every sport. It is all about the match-ups and what TV is willing to pay for them and this would really hurt the MWC, our closest competition. I would find it real hard for ESPN not to refer to us as a P6 and IMO, calling us a tweener is just stupid.
You guys are really having fun with these football only and non football invites. Well at least VCU and Wichita State would be coming from conferences in which they could improve their revenue but the revenue in the AAC is not enough to get schools like Boise State and Air Force to join football only and people really need to get away from this BYU pipe dream. My gosh, why not add Notre Dame and talk about bringing back Louisville?
I still wish we hadnât have brought in ECU, Tulane and Tulsa. They add absolutely nothing to a future TV contract. If we had skipped them and added just Navy, our conference would be a solid 6th in football and basketball with a major gap to the rest of the G5,
Yep, the Tulsa add is especially baffling at this point. I can at least see the thinking behind Tulane (New Orleans market) and ECU (large fanbase), but Tulsa brought neither while also having one of the smallest student enrollments in FBS.
The AAC will add Wichita State as a non-football member. Realistic expectations for expansion for the AAC should be UTSA, Louisiana Tech, UTEP and New Mexico.
Maybe we should just hold our breath and stomp our feet until a P5 Conference invites us. No? Then we work to make the best of where we are until a better opportunity presents itself. And we might try to learn from the short-sighted Mountain West. They were on the cusp of becoming a BCS conference. Until, that is, BYU and Utah jumped ship. Utah, I understand. But BYU is out there busting its ass to get into a P5 Conference. Idiots.
Says you. Thatâs a bunch of minor league teams which bring zilch - nada - to the AAC. Letâs get real here. If we can grow by adding teams that have merit, BYU, San Diego St, Boise, then great. But just throwing up our hands and adding any no-name team is not the answer.
