Those are realistic programs that the AAC can bring and they have room to grow. Only thing left would be for UH and a few AAC schools to join the MWC.

Doesnāt UH need to be in a P5 first. Why not try to be the best sports school regardless of what conference UH is at. Thatās the only thing UH can control. Sell the brand!

I donāt get your fixation on expansion. The AAC is the 6th ranked conference in football. Adding teams like UTSA and UTEP would drag us down. The others arenāt going to bring bigger TV ratings.

Seeing as I already made the point that SMU, Tulane and Tulsa donāt fit in and those four you listed are right there with them, ESPN will not give the bigger conference more money to televise Houston vs UTEP or Temple vs New Mexico.

I was stating that at this point those are the only realistic expansion candidates that the AAC has a chance at bringing in.
To get Boise State or SDSU something major will have to happen. Boise State has a unique TV contract within the MWC. That is why they did not join the BIG East. SDSU follows what Boise State does. They do have a new A.D. but nothing has changed so far.
Our goal is to get a P5 invitation or get into the super conferences when they will take shape. Anything else is BAD. We can argue for months but the reality is that we are right now second class citizens.
I keep writing about it but the fact is that the ncaa football CFP is a scam. Right now our only chance is to do what Utah did with Senator Hatch. The problem is that the G5 Presidents sold out for a NY6 bowl. I am not a lawyer but the G5 did agree to this. Does that stop any types of litigation?
The problem here is that the gulf is going to get bigger and bigger between P5 members and non P5 members.
You are 18 years old. Do you want to play for the big enchilada/salad bowl or for a conference title? We all know the answer and it is valid for every sport.
ESPN set up the scam with the CFP. When the playoff was announced I assumed that the BCS formula would still be used to select the top 4 teams but instead ESPN did this whole committee thing that shows clear bias and doesnāt have a set guideline of how they go about their rankings.
Almost all rating systems have a clear bias. When most contending teams play non contenders out of conference, then itās hard for any rating system to be a great system. Iām curious what teams you think were excluded by some ESPN conspiracy though. The AP, Coaches Poll and CFP all had the same top 4. The BCS rankings would have been no different.
Not sure what your tinfoil hat rant has anything to do with Boise State preferring to take a much more fair conference deal with the MWC then you just wanting to join the AAC as a football only member.
You keep playing with words. There is nothing remotely ārealisticā about the teams you mention. They would collectively only add to the bottom of the AAC. Making the bottom half bigger will put us on par with C-USA. Note the other replies and letās put this silliness to bed. Now if we could only dump SMU, Tulsa and Tulane. They belong in C-USA.
When did I mention Boise State? The committee claimed that conference titles matter but left out Penn State and included Ohio State only to have them get throttled by Clemson. Thatās my issue with the committee not setting up a guideline as to what theyāre looking for.
You are all over the map. The BCS ratings would have had the same four teams. Besides that, Penn State got crushed by Michigan so if the committee selected Penn State, people would have criticized that as well. Again, this argument has nothing to do with you wanting to water down the conference with four more teams that average less than 25k attendance, donāt know what the top 25 looks like and has no TV appeal to the fans of teams currently in the AAC. So reply if you want but you arenāt getting anyone on your side of turning the AAC into C-USA 3.0.
Look Iām not trying to water down the conference, I donāt have a say on who the AAC adds or if they even add anyone. But realistically the AAC wonāt be able to entice Boise State, San Diego State and Air Force to leave the Mountain West or get BYU to join the AAC. The four schools I named are schools that would make the jump to the AAC and that I believe the AAC would go after being that the AAC has schools like ECU, Tulane, Tulsa and SMU. Not sure why youāre getting so bent out of shape over a list of schools.
So, SiriusXM tweeted these out without context and didnāt include other points Aresco made. Aresco actually said that the American wouldnāt add āmultipleā schools, but later didnāt rule out adding one basketball school if everything aligns. Did say that the American is not looking at adding any additional football schools.
My guess is that the conference will add Wichita State either this year or next. Need to work it out with the TV folks.

Id be happy if we added just one high profile non football school. Hopefully it would be a school that has no aspirations of being an FBS program. There are many high profile basketball teams that play in average basketball conferences in which our conference would be an actual upgrade for them in power and financially.
BYU is a national nameā¦pretty simple stuff. Like them or not, they bring a lot more to the table in football and hoops than USMā¦and besides a trip to Utah is so much betterā¦
You missed my point on BYU. They are too big of a brand. Like Notre Dame, they have a hard core following. They have been successful on making a solid independent schedule as well. Iād love for us to bring in BYU but Iām pretty sure they are making more money as an independent than any of the AAC teams are making so we can send out an invite but Iām pretty sure the only conference they would join is the PAC12.
they worked hard to get a Big 12 bid, and would again if opportunity ever aroseā¦PAC12 will NEVER ask them due to all the religious affiliation stuffā¦
