The end College Football as we know it

Just what we need, NFL minor league :unamused:
Color me unimpressed and I hate the off-season.

Collegiate Football should never be NFL minors, they can spend their own money to create such a thing.

The NFL should stop using taxpayer funding to develop its talent. I would prefer they run their own minor league for the college age and practice squad guys who want to get paid, even if that means college ball becomes more like baseball, with just guys who actually want to go to school and don’t need to get paid. Especially if it siphons off the t shirt longhorn fans.

Yes, AXE 25 other P5 schools to make 40 teams to compete in a NFL type model??! Never going to happen. TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, plus others gone??? Lawsuits Armageddon would be upon the USA.

NFL Europe, USFL, XFL, AAF, World Football League.

The NFL is the NFL. College football works because of regional tribalism. Minor league football doesn’t work, it never has.

College football has always been about local rivalries. It is based on local rivalries. All of these articles or media pundits lose track of why it became hugely popular. The ncaa and the cartel are playing with fire. Every marketing Teacher/Professor will talk/teach your ears off about product & brand saturation. The cartel is not immune from it.
For the billionth time this is not about sport. The argument that Eastern Illinois or Tulane does not belong in the cfp is LUDICROUS They finish undefeated as an FBS DIV I and have every right to play in a cfp. This is basic. You don’t play them? YOU DON’T KNOW.
Trent and Ben you bring the tax payer angle. It is 100% valid. For the ones on this website denying it are contradicting themselves. Very few football programs are able to operate by themselves. That is a fact that is undeniable. Why should your and my money pay for these Schools to play in the cfp? Again for the naysayers go ahead and debate it.

How many P5 Schools are ready for a federal audit into their finances? You tell me.
The real question here is 100% true. Is the cfp more important than education?
These articles are interesting. You hear or read about programs making money but look at the debts that these programs have. All of these so called revenues are based on media rights. Do you all realize how fragile that can be? You feed the same food day after day and the customer will eventually tire of it. What is not or should not be acceptable is that your/my tax money pays for it.
Every player aspire to play in the NFL or at the next level. The NFL should pay for it not us.
It would be easy and logical to re-create local conferences and making a true cfp from theses conferences. Surely I do not trust uta or atm but the very essence of College Football is to play each other Schools. Not only would the local ratings go through the roof but it would re-create the “bragging rights” of my School is better than yours. As childish as it may be we all love it. How often does a student from West Virginia meet one from teetech? How often a student from U of H meet one from uta? The same goes for UCF and FSU and on.

It’s hard enough to get them to increase the playoffs from 4 to 8 or to have the playoffs at all so how could anyone think they would do something this radical? Referring to the original article.

I agree. It’s not going to happen.

Wishful thinking.

Just for comparison, how many art departments, history departments, science departments, etc make a profit. Last I heard, state colleges aren’t there to be profit centers.

On the other hand, how much money does the athletic department generate to the university by pulling in donations?

Some of these national writers throw this out there thinking that people will go for it. It’ll never happen. As soon as those schools try and break away and form a semi-pro league, there will be too many issues that will be impossible to overcome.

The NFL does not want to spend money for a semi-pro league.
The NFL does not want to spend money on new stadium. They want us to pay for it.
The cfp like it or not is already is a type of semi-pro league. It benefits few programs at the detriment of others and does the dirty work for the NFL.
The cfp does not want a semi-pro league paying players. It wants to keep the money to itself.
Meanwhile our taxes are going to these cfp Schools without asking us if we agree or not. Follow the money.
