The Hidden Rise Of Chase McCarty — Attacking His Redshirt Season at Houston,

“Chase McCarty did 1,000 Shot February. The University of Houston’s versatile shooting guard/small forward/potential sometime stretch four committed to making one thousand shots every day of the month last winter.”

I’m concerned that he picked the shortest month of the year. :smirk:

Kyle, l didn’t think they said 1,000 3’s every day, but thousand shots every day? Just asking.

He said “makes 1000 3s…”…

Man that would take me like 1,100 shots… crazy volume

I hope he has someone counting for him. I’d start spacing out in the 100s if I’m trying to keep making shots.

The article says he committed to making 1000 shots every day during the winter months.

:+1::v:

Sentence.

They installed a computer system that tracks shots made and missed on a shot chart for a player a few seasons ago. No keeping count necessary.

That is not what the article said. That was a statement by a poster!

Chase may be an Under the Radar guy who surprises everyone with his abilities.

Our depth is unreal. Our Second Team could beat lots of other Schools’ first team.

remove our starters, give us a weaker non conference to get reps… we’d still finish top 5 in the league

  • 6’3 Kingston 5star PG
  • 6’4 Mercy - top 50 sophomore
  • 6’6 Chase mccarty - redshirt top 70 4star
  • 6’5 Ramon - senior captain
  • 6’11 Jacob mcfarland - 4star double redshirt

bench
kordel, khalifa, lath, jackson

obviously a big lack of experience (why some weak noncon is needed)… but with samp as coach this is a top 25 team

compare to Previous teams and how they looked in the preseason:
this was a top 20 sampson team:

  • 6’1 rob gray - juco but notable scorer at this point
  • 6’1 galen- 4pts per pg on 25mins
  • 6’1 corey davis- moderately touted juco
  • 6’7 devin davis- juco (3star indiana before that, but deep bench)
  • 6’8 Breaon Brady - 6’8 untouted juco

Bench: wes vanbeck (walk-on), Fabian (Freshman high 3star/Unranked 4star) , Armoni (3star, after a bad freshman year)

Something to add in this conversation is how our standards have changed. Like, Hindsight, we loved this roster then, but I know in today’s standards, it wouldn’t hold weight. For example, in those days, an unranked 4-star Fabian we got insanely excited about and thought he was going to be a superstar, immediate contribution . Or big Juco producers like Corey we thought would come in and be a day-one impact. Whereas today, we have top 70 4-star we don’t expect to play, and if we got a Juco, we’d probably be putting them on the bench. My main point is to remove those standards and to objectively look at what we got then and what we got now.

Draft

if we looked at that team how they look ENTERING the 2018 (not after the season)… combined it with our bench roster and had a objective draft… Kingston would be 1st pick, then Rob, 4 of the next 5 picks would be from our bench roster (devin gets picked as the only true PF)

before i get hate for kingston over rob: rob was a 20pt scorer from a early exit NIT team entering his senior year… I was going to put Rob as the first pick but then I really thought about it! the star guard for the current NIT Champions is going to West Virginia And I asked myself would we trade Kingston for him? I don’t think we would, so if I’m being honest We would take Kingston over a NIT star

Maybe top 5 in our old league

I stand on top 5… with “sampson as coach and him running the monster” (i didn’t say win the league)

i have Arizona top 3, 5 of their top 8 have never played D1…

do i think a team where 4 of the top 5 starters are top 100 4/5stars, 4 of the 5 starters have atleast 1 year under the Sampson system, a team that has great positional size… would not finish top 5 in the league?? yes

i noted the flaws of the team, floor experience… thats why i noted a weak non conference to adjust… by there are 13 non con prep games that wont count towards the conference record…

do i genuinely think by the 13th game this team would be good enough to compete for top 5 in the league? 100%
comfortably the best in our old league…weve won that league replacing 4/5 starter and replacing them with juco … let alone 5star

Wilson. That’s why he closed some big games. Happened to Shead, Gorham. Deeky and grimes weren’t unplayable but got benched a lot before they turned into your 2 best players. Roberts from 21-22 to 22-23 was a massive jump. I remember going to the R v W scrimmage and we were running the offense through Roberts. I was in aw. There is a reason Sampson bets on his guys before going to the portal. He sees all the things we don’t. He knows when guys will be ready. And let’s be honest. If chase was on this team 3+ years ago we would be penciling him in as a starter lol.

To this point, this is also the reason i believe Sahko is will be a key part to our bench unit. I just don’t see Sampson bringing in another true C like him if he thought McFarland and Ced were ready. Could be wrong but just my guess.

I saw that in Mylik the prior season though. I mentioned on here, while plenty were riding him off.

He just couldn’t shoot as good that year…
