Tell me more about what will be different next year besides 7’4 being uninjured

Outstanding breakdown of your team. Love that we can be civil about these things and offer insight to each other’s style of play and personnel.

Defense has been such an issue this year, and getting the freshmen another year in the system plus getting rim protection back will do wonders for us. If we had a shot blocker this year we’d have won at least 5 more games. I love Furst and his hustle, but he must have small hands or something because he struggles to catch the ball, and while he’s a good defender he isn’t a backend eraser. Jacobsen will also add a lob threat in the post that we don’t currently have. TKR is a below the rim big.

Another off season of development for everyone. Smith has added things to his bag every year. TKR has improved every off season as well, despite what the number might show for his freshman and sophomore seasons (It’s hard playing second fiddle to a 2x NPOY).

We have a big body wing who is redshirting this year. He’s about 6’6" 220lbs and a great shooter and passer. He just wasn’t physically ready to play this year, but by all accounts he’s playing well in practice and looks in better shape (I know, everyone always looks good in practice reports).

Burgess, one of our injured centers, needs to get healthy. He broke his leg in high school so he missed out on some development because of that. Now he’s having shin splint issues because he’s still growing. If he can get healthy and have a full summer of strength and skill work, he could be good. He has good athletic traits for a 6’10-11" guy.

An extra year of development for our freshman guards. Harris has really improved as the year has gone on, especially the mental and confidence aspects of the game. Cox will have more time to work on his ball handling and strength.

Should be bringing in a big man from the portal to help solidify the rotation. A lot of feelers out there already on guys. We don’t need an amazing player, just someone who can play defense and rebound for 15 minutes a game. We’re bringing in a good scoring combo guard, but I’m not sure how much he’ll realistically play next year.

For the most part, Purdue has been good at developing players. Colvin and Heide are behind what we were hoping for this year, but all other returners have noticeably added something to their games. Harris is now rounding into who we expected, and Cox is ahead of schedule. If Loyer could get quicker or stronger he’d be so much better, but his body is just incapable of adding muscle.

We should be top 10 all year next year. I think we have Auburn, Alabama, and Iowa St. already scheduled so we’ll know pretty quickly how good the team is.
Edit: Forgot we also play Marquette, again. We play them basically every year now.

Thanks! But I also hope to not make a habit of having to play you guys, unless it’s in a title game haha.

We try to be respectful!

P.S. Do not go digging around and see how much respect this board had for Purdue’s Zach Edey teams

easy to see Purdue as a major contender. you are 4 seed as is. you only lose your center, every other major player returns…
no offense to you center but he isnt very notable and regularly rotated out … 4 of your top 8 are sophomore or freshman … with the soph not being major players last year (this year is the 1st real pt for all 4)

assuming everyone comes back (can even lose a 1 or 2 of the underclass) if you land a portal notable center in the portal youd bea preseason top 10… specifically of the shotblocking/rebounding variety, and another defensive bench PF wouldn’t hurt… retain your strengths and address your weaknesses… purdue with a jojo tugler is likely contending for a title

if they’re not, MODS will release the Kraken on their board…Cougar King!

King! King! King!

Deal, as long as you don’t go digging around our boards for all of the well wishes former IU coach Kelvin Sampson gets.

I’ve already noticed the comments.

Already seen. Our Edey stuff isnt actually all that bad. I did a quick check

Most of the experts had us going to the final four. Call it what you want we should have beaten Villanova after handling Arizona.
We were the better team.
1-20 says it all

Delusional boilermakers, no clue about our team or our program…

“… there will be a HUGE talent drop next year when their 5th/6yrs players leave and relying on Portal transfers will find out not enough talent to build a competitive roster. Just a hunch, next year is where teams that have been developing a program will shine…”

“… Houston lost to Auburn, Alabama, Texas Tech and San Diego State. They are not super human. We can beat these guys if we shoot well and get rebounds the way we have been the last two games. They had to have a record outing by Cryer to keep Gonzaga at bay. I don’t see Cryer doing that two games in a row. I trust our coaches to put together a winning game plan for Houston. Plenty of tape out there of what to do against a swarming defense…”

“… I can’t stand Sampscum. But now that you can legally cheat, he’s in hog heaven. I hope he never wins another game ever. Purdue by 1 on a last second shot…”

More nonsense

“…I would guess a bunch of 24 year old drug dealers if they’re anything like his IU teams. Eric Gordon said it happened. It was on espn and the nyt…”

“… Sampson spoke at our summer coaches meeting a couple of summers ago and shared his recruitment philosophy. UH identifies targets during their Sophomore / Junior years and offers them at the end of their Junior. If they commit they are not allowed to visit other schools on official visits since they committed and in return they will get a full ride despite what might happen their Senior year. If they do not commit Houston moves on and uses portal to fill the void as he would when someone leaves the team via portal. It seems to work and he has a mix of older players due to the COVID addition and young ones that don’t have to perform right away…”

To be fair, the greater portion of the board is respectful and thinks Purdue will win if the game goes well for them and bad for us. Boards are always going to have some random crazys. Our board is no exception, although I think we are better behaved that most boards.

The personal knowledge of Sampsons process is weird since it doesnt ever line up with our recruiting classes commitment dates at all, but whatever.

Its also funny that a segment of the basketball population thinks our team is some sort of portal creation like Arkansas always is. pretty funny

Yes they can beat us if they play as great as they did against High Point and McNeese. No reason for me to state the obvious.

“They are riding a pretty long winning streak and those have a funny way of ending…especially when there hasn’t been a ton of competition along the way.”

“The good news is I feel our out of conference schedule gave us some experience for what we’re about to see.”
