UH at 58.
I guess it’s cool to have a more valuable basketball brand than Notre Dame or Miami!
Then again, this rams home the point that brand value and brand quality are not necessarily the same.
Illinois has the 8th most valuable basketball brand, even though their basketball quality is WELL BELOW UH’s.
In the next 5 year, have a feeling we are going to rise up that list at a pace they’ve never seen before…ever
We have 3 top 20 ESPN players coming in next season, we are going to be the preseason #1 and we just had 40k+ travel for an away game…and all without yet receiving a full Big 12 share to date.
By April 2030, we will be a top 25 Basketball Brand
The difference between us and the “big brands” is we’ve only been good with certain coaches, not a long standing tradition of success. Also, we’ve only been in the “big leagues” for a couple of years.
We’ve had three huge eras where we’ve been ranked #1 and on the National Radar
late 60’s- Game of the Century ushering in the modern age of Basketball + Final Fours
Mid 80’s- PSJ, a National Phenomenon & Final Fours + 2 Championship appearance
Current Era- The most consistently dominant program since 2018 + 2 Final Fours and a Championship appearance
Why is our cash flow blank?
Cause ur not donating enough
I’m not but Mac and Tilman are… there’s no way we have the roster we have for next season without serious NIL…
But this is about the basketball department revenue and free cash flow… how do we sellout every game but have no cash flow?
I doubt that the UH hoops program has very much, if any, cash flow due to the very high costs of building and maintaining such a high nationally competitive program.
Some top programs like Duke and Louisville spend ~$30 million/year on their BB programs, while most of the others spend at least ~$15 million/year for theirs. Since UH’s BB program revenues are only ~$15 million, it seems that there is no net cash flow.
So until UH hoops can generate additional revenues (raise season ticket prices, build a bigger facility, get more sponsorships, etc.), it looks like our team value is what it is…and it seems likely that there really is no net cash flow at this point. [And that is without directly compensating our players going forward as proposed under the House case settlement.]
I would think that should change once we get full shares of B12 revenue…
The data set used to compile these rankings is probably too narrow and too focused on pure financial cuts … I say BS on it - when it comes to visibility, reputation, name recognition - there is NO WAY UH is 58th - complete non-sense. Take a poll of 1000 random persons across the country - ask them to name college basketball programs off the top of their head – UH would come in way higher than 58th name dropped… This is silly. We may not be a ‘blue blood’ - but right now (at this point in time) - UH is no doubt a well-known, national brand.
UH is the biggest brand yet to win a title.
7 Final Fours puts us in the top 10 in Final Four Appearances…which is not an easy task.
We destroy out more resourced in-state flagship schools of TU/TAMU…that is rare!
People who follow College Basketball definitely know of Houston Basketball…no we are #58.
Like I said, in 10 years, we will be where we rightly belong…inside the top 20.
UH has been to as many final fours as UConn. It’s honestly ridiculous.
And as many national championship games as Florida…
Unfortunately, they’ve won all 3 of their appearances and we’re still waiting on number 1.
Florida is 3-1, actually. They lost in Y2K.
Ahhh… I thought I saw that during the game…
Well, hopefully we can reverse their record next year and become 1-3 in nattys…
We also currently have the most title game appearances of any school without a championship, though Duke held the all-time record until 1991.
Shouts out to Michigan, who is 0-4 since they won it all in 1989.
Here are all the big 12 schools
1 (6) Arizona
2 (11) Kansas
3 (28) Iowa State
4 (36) Texas Tech
5 (41) BYU
6 (46) Baylor
7 (48) K State
8 (51) Oklahoma State
9 (58) Houston
10 (60) Utah
11 (62) TCU
12 (65) Colorado
13 (76) West Virginia
14 (78) Cincinnati
15 (80) Arizona State
16 (95) UCF
It’s amazing that a school like Cincy, with six Final Fours and two natties in their history, would be such a low value brand!
Again, brand size and brand quality aren’t the same!
Also, it is worth pointing out again just how much basketball brand size does NOT drive the realignment train.
UConn is a Top 15 basketball brand in terms of size, and also near the top in terms of historical quality. Yet despite that, they haven’t gotten an invite to any power conference simply because their football brand is truly that small and bad, and football, ultimately, is what drives the realignment train.
UH #1 on my list.
