The One Disappointing Thing

Trying to keep it balanced…

The UH kickoff ST was an embarrassment. It made UH look like a G5 team, especially since LSU sent every KO in the end zone for a touchback. It wasn’t just the kicker. The tackling was bad. That is, when LSU wasn’t fair catching the ball at the 30 yard line.

Pay a kicker who kicks touchbacks.

I would look at the top kicker in FCS or even D2

Interestingly this D3 kicker beat out all FCS and D2 kickers for this award and his team is about to play for the D3 national title

Edit- Dammit he’s a senior

Two FCS All-american kickers and both have hit the portal. Ozick from North Dakota State and Reed from New Hampshire.

Hope we give both a look

The kicker has been an ABSOLUTE LIABILITY the second half of the season.

Not having a kicker that can kick over 45 yards is unacceptable

Kickoff and FG duties were handled by different guys.
Sancez had the TCU miss but his accuracy won some games for us. I include him as great portal pickip

Ethan Sanchez had a strong year, making 20 of 25 field goals (80%), hitting all his extra points (XP), scoring 98 total points, with his longest kick being 52 yards, and earning Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his powerful and accurate kicking.

Believe it or not, I too have some concerns…

Kicking game was not good in 2025.

The Coogs not only need a kicker who can put it through the end zone, but…

Also need a return man that does something besides fair catch the ball.

Special Teams has always been a “hallmark” of Willie Fritz teams. Well, not this year.

I expect we’ll see some huge improvements next year. The good news is…

This will be a relatively easy fix; unlike waiting half a season for the o-line to gel…

Go Coogs Live mentioned how the ST lined up in a formation that they’d never seen them do in practice, so it seems it was new; they lined up favoring one side of the field, and it ended up biting them in the ass.

Not sure why the ST’s coach tried experimenting with that during this game, but they did adjust…after being down 14-0.
