I’m good with it. Smith isn’t the future and hasn’t played well enough this year to forgo seeing who we have on the roster that can carry us beyond this year. Let’s give Zeon a few games starting and see if he can stay healthy and sling the rock a bit without turning the ball over at a high rate. It is already apparent he is athletic/can run and is a gamer.
No surprise there
Opponents will have to respect the run with Zeon behind center. This will open up the passing and give us shots down field.
He’s going to make mistakes but he gives us the best chance to win.
Excited to see him be our starter.
We have a better chance to win now. There’s a little hope. Let’s see what we do from here.
Helpful to be mobile early in your career.
My only question is why did it take so long?
Remember he got dinged during the UNLV game so he couldn’t play or practice the next week
We’re still in the mix in the Big 12 so instead of having a throwaway season with Smith he’s trying to win now!
We COULD still win the Big 12 this season with this salty a$$ defense we have!
Hope… yes, please!
I think that’s the question some of us our asking.
I feel DS deserved a fair chance to be our starter, but when it looked like we weren’t moving the ball down the field, then we should have made the switch. I feel the coaches were trying hard to make it work and simply couldn’t.
Zeon should have been the starter after the Cincinnati game.
This is the right choice IMO.
Gary Ward 2.0… let’s go
Please let that be true!
Kansas is scroomed!
My only worry is he seems injury prone. I hope that is wrong and he is our next Greg Ward like QB.
And later on too.
I think Fritz handled it properly. Smith was the incumbent QB, was injured last season, rehabbed this Spring and was not sharp at the beginning of the season, due to a combination of reasons. New offense and personnel, lack of reps during the Spring, perhaps coming back prematurely. Clearly a major issue in QB play was an OL that was playing together for the first time. Another factor could have been that Chriss was not ready to operate the full offense early in the season and inserting him in for Smith would have made a bad situation worse for both Smith and Chriss. That seemed to be the case up until the TCU game. The TCU game was when all the hard work that Chriss and Smith paid off. Fritz avoided a QB controversy by sticking with Smith until the results dictated he needed to try something different.
Reminds me of when King took over, nowhere near the passer that Ward was but always gave us a chance.
Thank you Mr Smith! You’ve been a model team player.
