I agree with Tom’s order. At Memphis is going to be really tough. Not sure about Texas Tech since they have a new QB, but at their place will make it difficult. I don’t know much about Arizona, but I have a feeling we will beat them easily, so I’m tempted to replace Arizona with @ Navy.
Arizona has at least on G Ward level dynamic QB. If he would have played more last yr against UH more than likely would have been lost.
every game on the schedule is winnable. should be no excuses.
we will have better QB play when we face tech than last year. tech’s defense will be good but their offense might struggle early in the season. we have to take advantage of that.
this years Arizona team will be better but they are still learning the sumlin offense and we are at home.
Memphis wont be as good as last year imo since ferguson and miller aren’t on the team. Applewhite better not choke this game like he did vs them last season.
we should beat navy. hell Applewhite beat them last season here.
not scared about usf. they too are breaking in a new qb. (brett kean)? he isn’t the athlete Quinton flowers was and their two leading rushers graduated.
ok Alfred 12-0. No Excuses. Sorry in advance for any excuses – injuries, kicked off team, chemistry, too many turnovers, bad qb play, lack of OL. Signed CMA
I mean as much as I want us to go undefeated, i know realistically it wont happen given our coaching staff’s track record but this team at least better in the conference title game. the schedule is manageable.
Just to be fair, going undefeated over a college football season is hard for any coach to do. Since 2006, which was the switch to FBS, 9 teams have gone undefeated. Even the best teams slip up from time to time.
But, I do agree with you that every game will be winnable. 9-3 is my floor expectation, but if we gel quickly, we may see something special.
9-3 would be more than adequate. You still don’t know what you will be getting from D’Eriq King … up/down last year once he became starter. I believe winner of UH/Memphis gm will/should win the West Division.
This is college football so I don’t expect us to go undefeated. That’s very rare, as pointed out. What I do expect is an exciting brand of football with lots of scoring and an aggressive defense that gives the team a chance to win every game. Last years offense flat out stunk. It was one of the most boring offenses I’ve seen since the Helton years. That’s the cold hard truth for most of us longtime Coog fans. This year, Applewhite hired KB to bring back an exciting brand of offense. I believe the talent is there at all the key positions to be a top 15 offense. King wasn’t the problem. He wasn’t perfect but he was put in a bad situation running a predictable offense that allowed defenses to key in on him and the RB’s. This year I expect him to shine under KB.
Defensively, we are absolutely loaded with the exception of a little inexperience at the linebacker position. I mean, come on, Ed Oliver, Chambers, Carter, Fleming, Anderson, Watkins, Owens, and a host of young talent, a few of which were injured or redshirted last year. Seriously, if that group can’t hold opponents in check then the problem lies squarely on the DC. I may be in the minority but based on what I saw last year I’m not convinced he’s the answer. We’ll see. No excuses!
Again, I believe the talent is there for a 10-2 type season or better. I could see the potential for 3 losses if the games are close and played on the road. However, if we lose against both P5 opponents, perhaps squeak out a few conference wins, and then lose big to a team we should beat like say Tulsa, then I’m pretty certain this coach won’t be able to get it done here. Shit, just thinking about that Tulsa loss gets me fired up. Same with Tulane although I half expected a dog fight with Fritz coaching that team. Speaking of which, I expect them to be even better in his 3rd year. Historically he’s improved every team within the first 2-3 years.
10-2, 11-1 if we get through the non-conference unscathed.
Welp, going by last year’s composite ranking:
24 @ Memphis
28 USF
45 @ Navy
52 Houston
54 @ Texas Tech
58 Arizona
63 Temple
66 @ SMU
===========
79 Tulane
107 Tulsa
109 @ East Carolina
127 @ Rice
NR Texas Southern
I’m worried about the seven games above the line. Any losses below the line are inexcusable. Can’t lose to Tulane or Tulsa at home. Not in revenge games for last year. Can’t lose to Rice or TSU. Even though it’s on the road, ECU sucks.
By the way, Athlon picks UH to go 7-5 overall (ostensibly losing to Tech and Arizona), and 5-3 in conference.

If our defense plays against passing teams like they did in the second half of the Memphis game, the DC should be canned on the spot !! NOW, whether that was his call of CMA’s, I do not know, but to have shut down a Memphis offense for the first half and then completely change your scheme the second half is unacceptable.
If Briles offense is as good as we hope and puts points on the board, then play defense aggressively all the time…save the last minute of a blowout game…I’m not even sure about that.
Man, thankfully you have zero say over what UH actually does.
Uhhh Mr diehard Coog putting UH on higher ground than they are on. W/O Power5 $$ they just don’t have $ to keep throwing away. Khator was barking not biting when she made statement. If CMA goes 8-4, 9-3 he will be back for sure. They are so much in RED for Athletics $ and it keeps getting worse. Sampson has to beg for the simplest request for his program. #Reality
Exactly why she knows we have to be a big winner. Too much invested to let poor coaching let us back slide !!!
Face it, a lot of the “debt” is funny money !!
Barring an o-fer season applewhite will be back. UH doesn’t have the money to buy out his contract.
Not sure what his base pay is, but it can be done.
Let’s hope he has a breakout year and we don’t have to worry about that.
A conference championship will matter more to me than overall record in figuring if CMA has a successful season or not… and beating Tech (for family bragging rights)
well thats their fault for hiring applewhite.
Some of the postings of UH fans on this thread are probably similar to fan postings on UT and OU and ATM and Alabama and LSU and Georgia and Florida and Ohio State and Michigan and Clemson and other college’s fan boards who expect that their team should be in the playoffs every year and are likely to win the national championship this year.
It’s one thing to be a loyal and supportive college FB fan, but to me, such postings are biased and trend toward becoming delusional.
