I was told that beer was almost gone by halftime. They’ll have plenty of time to prepare for the return of the Bayou Bucket.
Midway through the third quarter all they had was hard Topo Chico.
We drank all of Rice’s booze!
Last two games over there have been the worst turnouts I have seen since the SWC broke up.
The ticket printer is overseas. Go figure.
I was ready to see the game at 5:50 p.m. I got in line to buy tickets at gate 3, but was told they only sell them at gate 4. The person I spoke to also suggested I try buying them online with a QR code, but when I tried, I found that online sales had closed at kickoff.
I headed to gate 4, where I was redirected again, this time to gate 1. When I finally arrived at gate 1, I saw a wooden building with four ticket windows, but only one was open. There were about 50 people in a single-file line in front of me. After a few minutes, a stadium official walked through the crowd and announced that online ticket sales were open again. I was able to buy a ticket on my phone and then got in another long line to buy a beer. I didn’t get to my seat until late in the second quarter.
The experience was frustrating. The school didn’t seem prepared for a large crowd, with incorrect information given by stadium staff and long lines at the only open ticket window. This resulted in me missing a significant portion of the game.
Unless prescheduled engagements prevent it, it’s always best to go early to games to avoid the time-taking tasks that you described.
I was told to proceed to gate 1 and bought tickets about 5:00. I waited 10 minutes. I can’t believe it took so long to purchase tickets. They’d ask for your email and then send the tickets there. Their printer wasn’t working.
They should of had several hundred general admission tickets printed and hand them as you buy them.
It could always be worse. UH isn’t ready for big time but Rice is worse.
I’ll let my boss know.
Well you didn’t miss much unless you are a fan of 3 and outs. Late in the second quarter seems like a good time to actually join the party for this one.
Liked the fact that the restrooms were not open on the upper deck. However, one of the doors was not locked, and in spite of the fact that they had no lights, I had been to the stadium often enough to know where to go. So I was able to take care of business in the dark.
The crowd didn’t look like the announced 30k to me. What say ye)
I doubt there were 30k there thats some Tulane like counting with that number.
I think that most schools are counting all the folks at the stadium on game day including those working in the concessions, the ticket offices, the security ops, the audio/video control booths, etc. as well as all of the coaches & players…so not just the fans in the stands.
And so, looking at just the fans in stands, it appeared to be closer to 25,000 to me.
I promise you there werent but 2 or 3 thousand Rice students and fans. Pretty good turnout by us. That stadium of theirs has turned into a filthy rathole. 75 years old with no upkeep for no telling how long. SO glad we have seen the last of them and their place. Bucket deserves a permanent place in our trophy collection.
If Rice were serious about football, they would demolish that stadium and build a 25,000-30,000 capacity stadium. Oh, and a build a proper training facility. Last I heard, they practice in an inflatable bubble. Something like that.
