Yale upsets Baylor in March 2016. Reporter asks the players how does Yale outrebound Baylor?
The tone of the reporter is a little sarcastic in asking the question and maybe that generated a sarcastic reply from the player.
But, I just don’t think that type of comment would be said in our UH program. If we’re not winning the rebounding battle, then you’re doing something wrong in CKS eyes.
It is not always about the number. When you out rebound the opposition and force more turnovers there are fewer defensive rebounds a
available. Our team out rebounding teams while outshooting them by a wide margin is an unbelievable feat.
CKS obsesses about rebounding. We have coaches that track some pretty obscure stats. “Tips” is one of them, basically if you can’t get the full rebound get one hand and bang it out of the area. There’s a lot more but there’s some trade secrets. This is one reason why I’ve always thought CKS would be great in an NBA front office after coaching is over. He’s a treasure of hoops knowledge.
The tone of the reporter/journalist asking the question was more than sarcastic. He was being a straight up d*ck.
Frankly, I loved the response of Prince. Do I invite young men to respond that way when a reporter is pressing them? No. But give these kids a break. They were just upset by a lesser opponent and ousted from the tourney. Yeah, you man up and do the presser afterwards but it’s also the reporter’s job to show a little humility when asking the questions.
Instead of asking, “How does that happen?” in a prick like tone, maybe the proper question would have been, “Yale out-rebounded you 36-32 tonight. Was there something in their scheme inside the post that prevented you guys from controlling the boards?”
I’m sure Prince would have had a different response.
In other words, if one of our guys responds this way, I’m not putting that on CKS’ shoulders to prevent that sort of thing from happening.
