You may have not read my support for CDH from the beginning of the season, but after all the trials and tribulations of 2019 and 2020, the team is starting to gel. Some of yall were calling for his head in the beginning of this year. Good things take time to progress, organically. I am not expecting a AAC championship this year, but I am expecting the team to get better each and every game.
We need true grit games like last night to build morale and Tune will be a beast next year if he stays consistent!!
Can’t argue with the progress. Can’t argue the fact that we are in 1st place and are likely to be there for a couple more weeks (hopefully longer).
Yeah, we sure did hand it to that 1-4 team yesterday! In fact, our wins so far even have a total of 4 combined FBS wins! Look out Football, here we come, Houston Cougars, number one!
I tend to agree with you BUT the improvement is clear. Except for the OL, every facet of the game is improving. On the OL, I think we are outmanned at guard. Plus holy crow we get called for a lot of procedure penalties. Reminds me of the days of Sir Vincent Rogers who got called for holding on what seemed like every other play. We started calling him Sir Holdsalot.
Guarded optimism. Maybe this rest and practice time will get the OL clicking. Too early to pop the Champagne, though. We’ve played 5 bad quarters this year, two of which cost us the TT win.
A come-from-behind win on the road is hard to pull off. We didn’t beat Bama, but this is a very nice game to have in our pocket.
It’s great being 5-1 but level of competition has to be taken in to consideration. I’m still not ready to say he’s the right coach leading the program into the B12. I just haven’t seen enough. I know I’ll be accused of being “too negative” but just calling it like I see it. SMU and hopefully, Cincinnati will give me a measuring stick.
When I was a kid, I was a Penn State fan. My mom’s cousin was a DT for them class of '65. I was ring bearer at his wedding.
Penn State was always a top 10 team on the strength of beating Holy Cross, Layfaette, Temple, and so forth. The Thanksgiving weekend game vs Pitt was typically their toughest game…until January 1. Then, they’d get matched up in a major bowl against a really good team and we’d find out how good PSU really was.
Answer was almost always “very good”.
What I’m trying to say is that people who know football, or any sport for that matter, can tell if a team is good even if their competion isn’t.
UH 2021 is good. In 6 weeks we may be very good. Go Coogs!!!
Not sure who lit the fire under our o-line last night but in the 4th, they were opening some nice holes. Johnson was doing particularly well.
On the penalties, coach talked on the radio show how Tulsa would simulate our snap count by clapping or slapping a leg. That’s a penalty and he fussed at the refs about it but they never called it.
He also said that Tulane does the same thing. So it isn’t our line being unfocused or dumb, it’s the other team.
A “Told You So” thread after that game? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
We had 25 yards rushing…at the half. Score was 26-22 in the 4th Qt…vs Tulane. We scored a late TD to make the score more lopsided than the game actually was. You know…similar thing happened in our game vs Texas Tech, the only decent team we have played all year.
Tulane is garbage. This should have been a blowout in the 2nd qtr. But it wasn’t.
It’s nice to be 5-1…but this thread is EXACTLY why the Polly Train burns so hot and bright after a loss.
I totally disagree with Tulane being garbage. They were well coached and made good plays. If we didn’t have an NFL defensive line, we might not be calling them garbage today.
We need true grit games like last night to build morale and Tune will be a beast next year if he stays. He is on schedule to graduate and is only eligible next year because of the COVID free year. So whether or not he decides to return is not settled as far as I know. I certainly hope he does.
And hope gets tempered when you remember your head coach went for it on 4th down on UH’s own 29 yard line in the 3rd quarter, nursing a 2 point lead. Team didn’t make and one player later UH then trailed Tulane…in the 3rd quarter. Tulane!
It closer to this game going either way than anyone actually knowing if the team can win the AAC.
