A destination school is one where a coach sees themselves staying long term and retiring there. UH was not that. It was a stepping stone. Perhaps, the Big 12 will change that but even then, I’m not sure that would keep a successful and coveted young coach from making the jump.
I disagree. But then again, I realize I’m talking to UH fans who are bitter that he left their program and would have been happy if he had stayed.
Should Fritz be successful, my gut is he retires here at UH
But he’s also an anomaly amongst a sea of younger coaches that want to climb
Fritz took the long road
Exactly. He’s at the end of his career, which was a reason why they hired him. To hopefully be like a Sampson. But a hot shot, young coach who is successful? Well, we have seen that several times here. Would the Big 12 and more resources help? Maybe?
I doubt it honestly
The way college athletics is going, it’s just following the money. Loyalty and tradition is long gone, and the fans are the only ones keeping any tradition alive
It also helps that the transfer portal doesn’t make players sit out a season
For example, if Tom Herman had left UH in 2015, he could’ve taken practically the entire roster with him right away including any commits and redshirts
Imagine if he took Greg Ward, Ed Oliver, Matt Adams, Tyus Bowser, etc to UT in 2016
What point are you trying to make? What are you responding to?
You’re asking if UH can keep a young coach
If said young coach is successful, my answers is probably not
Ahh I got it now
A cautionary tale
How dare he have career ambitions and want to be successful at UH so he can put himself in a position for a prestige job if the opportunity presents itself. I can’t believe he wanted to work hard and win at Houston! The audacity… smh.
Y’all have lost the plot.
Lopez was also an Aggie so he probably was mad that Kyle Allen was leaving to go to UH of all places.
Disagree about what !!
This is why I don’t take the Peach Bowl win for granted.
Thankfully we won a NY6 before the transfer portal and NIL era.
UH was an AAC school then so there was a natural progression at the end of the day - can’t fault him but that’s how those circles work - remember he worked there and came from Ohio state
That’s why I don’t see why we go crazy for hiring P4 folks like they know more things - their sole mission if they drop down is to get back
Now that’s not an issue I don’t expect anyone to even think about jumping if they apply as we’re technically on the same level
I wonder what Lopez thinks about Weigman transferring to UH. I never listen to that show.
It’s 97% Texans, 2% Astros and 1% rockets if their good - little teams to no phone calls now just texts they choose to read - very bad
