Tom Herman’s “Alternative Facts” About Poaching Former UH Prospects
It’s time to get past this. Forget Herman. We gave a guy a job that had his eyes on UT all along. Everyone is acting like that is a total shock. Now we have a famous ex-UT QB that put on paper that they would have to buy him out. If you think 3 years from now, if we have 28 wins and Herman has 20 wins, that Applewhite isn’t the next UT coach, that you really need to find another hobby.
There is a fine line between blind faith and being gullible and some on here cross that line a little too often.
Well said shaggy.
Yeah, One could say that if Herman gets UT winning over the next 3 seasons and they win the BIG12 Championship (though they are left out of the CFP.) That if Meyer’s retires then Herman will be gone to replace him at tOSU.
UT will become tOSU’s HC developmental team while UH is UT’s HC internship team.
Of course to believe this one would have to believe that a multi billionaire UT donor had stated that CMA is possibly UT’s next HC after Herman leaves. Or something even crazier, like Herman not buying a home in Austin but deciding to rent CMA’s home in Austin. Thus CMA has a renter who will take good care of his home until Herman leaves to tOSU and CMA needs it when he returns to Austin to be the next UT HC.
Yeah like anything like that would ever happen. Really have to be creative to come up with a scenario like that.
Yes, it’s weird he is living in Austin by himself, and not with his family.
Maybe his kids are finishing the school year in their existing schools. That happens a lot with relocations of every kind.
Only temporary; he said that they wanted the kids to finish out their school year in Houston before moving. Being in the military, I’ve contemplated doing that if I was tasked to move during the school year. Moving is hard on kids; a lot harder when you have to do it during a school year.
And Major isn’t making any bones about staying if the right offer comes along. He signed the contract with the buyout because this is a great opportunity for a first time head coach. @CougarRed has said repeatedly that no coach in Houston history is walking into a better situation. If he’s successful, some P5 will come calling and Major will likely be gone. Maybe it takes 3-5 years this time, but Don’t expect him to stay forever; don’t expect any coach to stay anywhere forever at this point.
And honestly, I don’t blame them; loyalty is a 2-way street. There were folks, not so much on here, calling for Herman to be fired after the SMU loss, only his third loss in almost 20 games. Levine was fired (in my opinion deservedly so) after 2 winning seasons out of 3. Les Miles had kept LSU in the national spotlight and turned down overtures, including one from his alma mater, and was tossed on his butt halfway through a winning season. Even guys like Bobby Bowden and Phil Fullmer, legends at their respective schools, were forced out when results weren’t what the expectations demanded.
My only hope is that Major has some professionalism when he leaves and does it on proper terms instead of the way Briles, Sumlin, and Herman have done. Hopefully that groundedness he’s showing is legitimate.
Word…if CMA were to leave in 3-5 years, that would mean we’ve been consistently in the national spotlight and successful. This run from Briles through present would be further evidence that a good coach can recruit and win at this school. It would mean that we’re in the conversation for whatever conference realignment(s) occur next. Let UT or whoever take CMA, we’ll get the next guy.
Khator’s next target for the school is AAU. As long as academics keep rising with athletics, they won’t be able to ignore us. My hope is a conference with no Texas teams so we can stand alone in the state recruiting wise (Pac, ACC, B10). That’s my dream anyway
I’ve been a reader for some time, but have never been a poster, so I expect that some will believe I’m not a real Cougar fan. Well, that’s not the case. Been a fan since the 60’s, season tickets since the 80’s, and class of 1983. I enjoy positive info, and believe that good times are ahead, but I also believe there is nothing wrong with pointing out the BS spewed by Herman. He’s a rat, not because he left, but because the way he did it, his disingenuous blather, and his lying. I genuinely believe that he has, and will continue to do things to harm and minimize our team. I see nothing wrong with pointing out what he does. If this helps keep his unctuous nature in the spotlight, all the better. I hope that what I said doesn’t make anyone mad. I just don’t like to see our school get screwed, without pointing it out.
Eat 'em up.
Welcome Sir and bravo.
History tells us that we are U of H because of what we have accomplished by OURSELVES
uta despises us because we are infringing into what they think is their own mother lode. That is true for both academia and sports.
He is now their Coach so you can be sure that he will pull every string possible to get recruits out of the greater Houston area. He came to our School because he knew how rich this area is. briles and scumlin knew it too. Would he, would they have been successful at another G5 School? We can all think about that one. So he went to the enemy. What do we do with our enemies? We keep them close to us. We should try everything in our power to limit his influence. I believe that is one of the main reasons that Major was hired. As always the future will tell us what will come next.
Welcome sir. And good on ya.
