Tonight's attendance

I haven’t been on here in weeks so I wanted to catch up on the buzz.

Our attendance has sucked for decades outside of UT/A&M/P5 teams coming to the Astrodome/Robertson stadium.

Wow, I wouldn’t think any Coog fan would say that in this day and age.

I can understand we need more hot girls, more students, and more local casual football fans at our football games but sheesh.

Great crowd!

There are a ton of excuses that have been used over the years about our poor fan support.

The big in-state rivals such as UT and Texas A&M have traditionally been heavily skewed towards a Caucasian campus population. They also have great fan support. UH has been a non traditional school serving a much more diverse populous. UH has had poor fan support. Therefore there was thought to be a correlation there.

Now the explanation behind that isn’t as much about skin color as it is about background.

Growing up in Texas, football is king and the rural towns in Texas 30, 40, 50 years ago were not as diverse as they are trending these days. They were also very tight knit. The culture of Friday night lights is prevalent across the state. The conversations during large family gatherings typically center around sports and more specifically College Football at some point. There is an immersive culture of fan support for schools which go back generations and generations. Kids growing up with these alumni of UT and A&M have been brainwashed to root for their parents alma mater.

That said, the thought is that an Asian person (as an example) who grew up far removed from a large family who went to UT or A&M and talked sports at family gatherings for decades and attended sporting events wouldn’t produce as rabid of fans on a large scale.

The same could be said worldwide about USA and Futbol. It’s not as big in the States as it is in say Spain or England as an example. It’s growing, but no one’s saying that USA rivals Brazil in fan support and that has a lot to do with culture.

Yeah… F this guy man. Can’t wait until he gets fired from the school down the line. Sorry coach.

great crowd.

seems to look bad on tv/espn+ to me as they always show the sideline with the pricey seats that are likely to be paid for no-shows. i wish they would thought about that when the did the renovation and put the other side for the tv sideline shot.

Has anyone seen the new UT basketball arena…? Not a big fan. Their seats are just too far away from the court. Nothing compared to the Fertitta Center.

Yeah, I’m not sure what they were going for on the design.

Need a lil help…first time to Fretitta…parking pass says Level P Section SG…where is this garage?

thanks & GO COOGS!!

I think that’s stadium garage

I was told attendance is bad because all the white people left. That was nearly 20 years ago. Told that by a UH alum. I laughed because we get blamed for any social ills and now attendance too. :joy:

Orange garage pass is the garage between TDECU and Fertitta Center

I just went on-line to check ticket availability for NC AT&T. Five single seats available. That’s impressive!

If you write it out in long paragraphs, is it less racist?

The garage will be slow getting in and getting out after games now with the large crowds. And, if you are coming from I-45, you will have to pick your poison: light rail issues turning left from Scott or construction on Cullen. Good luck!

I’m driving in from Austin, so I assume I-10 to 45 will be the route. Maybe I’ll park somewhere and Uber it!!

GO COOGS!!

Since it is your first time, just get there early (e.g. 30 to 45 mins before tip-off) and then hang around afterwards since it is an afternoon game. Walk on over to Pink’s if it’s not raining and you can spend your Uber money on pizza.
