Tonight's Game and Next Week

There is a lot of talk on here about the Coogs not having a great showing tonight due to the travel and the fact that literally everyone (except the football team hopefully) is looking ahead to next week’s game.

I think the Coogs will blow out Oregon State just based on how they looked against Oregon and Tech.

Against Oregon I’m not sure they even had a pass over 8-9 yards the whole game. They were actually competitive for the first half and tied the game at 7 in the first quarter after forcing Oregon to turn the ball over on downs, but after that it was all Oregon. OSU had about 150 total yards to 580 for Oregon.

Tech was actually worse even though the score doesn’t look like it. OSU was down 45-0 with Tech scoring on every possession and OSU either punting or turning the ball over. Tech put the reserves in during the third quarter when it was 35-0, and scored 10 more points before OSU started moving the ball and scored a couple of TDs late in the 4th quarter. They finished with about 280 total yards (almost all of it in the 4th quarter) to Tech’s 600 yards. They basically got mauled in this game but Tech’s current coach is the anti-Mike Leach and actually had mercy on them.

All this is to say we are not going to have problems with OSU. They can’t move the ball unless it’s against reserves, their QB throws INTs galore, and they have no running game. Against Fresno State they actually doubled up Fresno in yards (500+ to 280 total yards) but were so inept on special teams that they kept gifting Fresno TDs.

At home maybe they move the ball better, but they are a turnover machine and will be facing what might be the most disciplined Defense they’ve played tonight. I’ve seen the Cougs play and I’ve seen the Beavs play twice, and it won’t be close no matter how far ahead everyone else has been looking.
