Tourney seedings

Unless there is a major upset this weekend like us losing to ECU or UConn beating Cincy it looks like our schedule will be a first round bye, then UConn, Cincy and SMU. Not an easy road to the championship game, especially with the tournament being at UConn.

Tulsa has the tiebreaker on UCONN and plays Tulane tomorrow. If they win and UCONN loses, Tulsa would end up as the 6th seed.

It would be a three way tie with Memphis. Are you sure it goes Memphis, Tulsa, UConn in a threeway tie?

Good call, in a three-way, Tulsa would end up as the 5th seed and Memphis the 6th seed.

Here’s the tie-breaking scenarios from the American:

Not sure if I’m happier about facing the Lawson brothers again. lol

With Memphis losing today, it means that Tulsa can’t finish as the 6th seed, only the 5th or 7th seed.

So scenarios:

  • UCONN beats Cincy: 5-UCONN, 6-Memphis, 7 Tulsa
  • UCONN loses/Tulsa wins: 5-Tulsa, 6-Memphis, 7-UCONN
  • UCONN loses/Tulsa loses: 5-Memphis, 6-UCONN, 7-Tulsa

Agree with you @shaggylives, those Memphis games have been tough so far.

Edit to add: SMU won the conference on Saturday meaning that Cincy will be the 2 seed. Assuming UH wins today, most likely road to a tourney championship for Houston will be Memphis, Cincy, and then SMU.

Glad to have gotten the 3 seed. Like others, not thrilled about the prospect of facing Memphis.

Still got to win today to clinch the 3rd seed.

UCONN losing by 12 in the 2nd half. If it holds, they can’t be the 5th seed, only 6th or 7th depending on what Tulsa does against Tulane.

So… Tulsa’s losing by 11 to Tulane with about 10 minutes to go. If that holds, we’ll play the UCONN/USF winner as @shaggylives said.

That’s assuming we win, which isn’t for sure right now.

Coogs locked up the 3 seed with a win. Tulsa loses and UCONN locks up the 6 seed. Coogs will play the winner of UCONN/USF on Friday at 8 pm.

So we get to play UConn again this year in their home venue !!

Not the best draw, but it is what it is !!

Even a blind dog sniffs out a bone once in a while.

No 6 UConn - On a 4-game skid that started in Houston
No 7 Tulsa - Won only 2 of their final 8 games
No 10 Tulane - Won only 2 of their final 11 games but today was one of them vs. #7 Tulsa
No 11 USF - Won only 1 conf game all season

Beating UConn 3x in one season and 2x at their place is going to be tough. My hope is that Ollie’s team has opened a big can of Quit and struggles against USF before losing to UH.

And I would prefer to have SMU in the UH half but otherwise I like the setup for a semi-final game.

It makes me feel a little better about the game after three of UConn’s players played 39 minutes each. Even if we get off to a rough start, we should be able to dominate them the last 5 minutes of the first half and the last 10 minutes of the game. It would be nice if our starters all got to play less than 30 minutes each. Then we could be better rested for the probably matchup with Cincy on Saturday.

ECU is trailing SMU by 3 with 1:11 left. Is this the same ECU we crushed by 22 just a few days ago???

I’m watching the game too. This 2nd half is nuts.

ECU’s wide open cutter didn’t catch the ball. Would have tied the game up with 15.6 seconds left. Ouch! SMU pulls it out. Dang it!

After a slow start, UCF is having its way with Memphis early on. 27-14 Memphis with 8:30 left in the first half.

Update: UCF up 43 - 26 at the half.

Update: UCF is straight up murdering Memphis. 79 - 47 with 2:00 left.

Update: FINAL 84 - 54 UCF wins.

I thought Rhode Island might have a shot at losing…but I think they’ll pull their game out.
