Transfer Portal 2025

NIL is good for college basketball & the players:

One example Kendall Brown

*5 star recruit, spent 1 season at Baylor.

*Drafted 2nd round, pick 48 in 2022 NBA Draft

*Signed to a 2-way contract when drafted. He’s now 22 yrs old & his NBA career maybe over.
Cause he never really developed. Great athlete, who didn’t hone his skillset

Trevor Keels, another example. Left college after 1 yr. Hes basically a G League guy. Age 21. No shot of making the NBA

I could list 10+ guys drafted 2nd round over the yrs, who probably should’ve came back to college

More examples of how NIL has been good for the game of college basketball.

None of these guys would have returned 5 years ago.

Labaron Philon returning to Alabama.

Most thought he’d stay in the Draft.

Once this evolves to the point where players understand staying more than one year with a program will help their development, the sport should be even better.

Agreed.

And we could easily name twice as many undrafted guys who stayed in the draft because they thought they were going to be drafted or just wanted to get started with their professional careers…who likely would have been drafted after another year of development.

Nate Hinton and Armoni Brooks, for example.

Imagine the 2020-21 backcourt with a healthy Nate Hinton (along with Grimes, Sasser, Dejon, Tramon and Shead).

Imagine the 2019-20 team with Armoni Brooks (along with Hinton, Mills, Grimes, Dejon and Sasser in the backcourt).

I think they both would have stayed under the current rules.

NIL is making college basketball better in terms of competition. Worse in terms of continuity. No doubt.

The NBA might up the rookie wage scale to
compete with NIL lol. It seems there are lots of players who were told they would be drafted who are coming back.

If I’m NBA I’m glad players are staying longer in college. They’ll be more ready to contribute as opposed to a one year 19 yo. There’s always the exception to the rule but in the long run this is good for the league.

Its good to not be listed on this, unless you are a Mussleman team

i really like arizonas roster… to me they are one of the most underrated teams in the nation… theyd be my #2 for the league …they lost KJ Lewis and Henri Veesaar transferred because neither were expected to start

Facts. They’re a good piece away from being a NC contender. Wish Carter Bryant had came back.

Just like Coward would of made Duke that much better even though Sarr is a solid replacement.

You know I’m missing basketball when I’m watching the Adidas Eurocamp.
It’s scrimmages that are happening throughout the day that they are live-streaming.

  • It’s two Euro teams,
  • one NBL team, (young players in the NBL)
  • an all-star team of all the best players in the USA Adidas AAU circuit.
  • One Europe U18 team (Note the other two Euro teams are mostly 19 to 23 year olds).
  • a World Team, which is the best the world has to offer that doesn’t fit into any of these categories.

why i was watching… its a preview of some of the euro player we’ll play against

On Euro Team 2:

  • Ivan kharchenkov (not commited but every major site has him as a lock to arizona) on euroteam 2- 6’6 with legit PG skills, can REALLY defend/strong, way tougher than the traditional Euro player (had multiple blocks)- tight handle as in you wont strip him, but he isnt going to shake and bake you… I REALLY LIKE him… as is i thought Arizona was underrated, would be such a big add if they close the deal
  • Brice Dessert 6’11 - Just watched him for the first time—he’s a total game changer. Considered the best available center, with Kansas, Auburn, and Kansas State seen as the top contenders. When I first heard Kansas was involved, I didn’t get it—why would he go there just to back up Flory? But after watching him, it’s clear they’ll play them together. He’s everything you want in a center: incredibly strong, super coordinated, high motor, good low-post scorer, and moves really well. Not an elite shot blocker, but definitely decent. If Kansas State lands him, I’d legit call them a conference title contender. After seeing him, I looked him up—he’s like 23 :sob:. If he enters college classified as a freshman, he’ll be the next Hunter Dickinson type where everyone’s posting the LinkedIn memes. Unknown now but could be huge name in the sport in a few years (little draft potential but high college upside).
  • Paul Mbiya - Projected starting center for NC state- super strong, crazy wing span…and no body coordination what so ever… backed up brice… i already thought nc state was a top candidiate for top flop candidate… another point was added why

the USA AAU allstar-

note that they did play the worst team in the field (The U18 euro team) - Players that we offered

  • Caleb Holt - I hate getting excited about players too early, so I really don’t start looking at the upconing recruiting class until like mid to late summer when they’re already favorites list and they’ll soon to be committing. So outside of Scout Rating i havent deep dived into anyone, But let me tell you right now, I watched this game and I became a SUPER believer in Caleb Holt. When I say nasty, I mean extremely nasty on defense. In the first 5 game minutes, he might have had four steals and almost drew a charge, and was forcing away screens… i was like what am i watching!!. offensively His handles tight. He had a off the dribble mid-range shoot. He didn’t make threes he took, but he wasn’t hesitant on shooting them, which makes me believe he can make them.

  • Davion Adkins - the #1 recruit in texas (6’9 center), we offered… extremely switchable on defense, i dont mean hold his own, i mean he can fully defend guards… super high IQ player, made lots of great passes and smart screens… without knowing his backgroud, feels like a kid who had a late growth spurt and was original a guard/wing… rim protection not amazing, and wasnt scoring much… i think if he came in, we’d switch him to the 4.

Take these with a grain of salt, it was just a one game sample size and at the same time they did play the worst team in the camp. They Play Euro Team 1 tomorrow morning. A Better team

Euro Team 1-

they did not play today, both their games tomorrow… only 1 player with any reason to care (the rest arent coming the US)

  • Andrej Kostić - 6’7 guard committed to Kstate- only 18yrs, labeled the future of serbia basketball… espn thinks he is a 1st round next year… kstate gave him 1.5mil NIL deal… BUT unlike A lot of the other EU prospects that are entering the league next year, he has only played in EU lower levels, so it’s going to be hard to see how he translates, so this could be a good preview. And note, just based on size, he will likely be matched up with Holt most of the game, so that should be an interesting matchup.

Update on the AAU All-Star Team vs. Euro Team 1

The All-Star team won in a blowout. surprising, considering the All-Star roster is all under 18, while the Euro team was made up of older players (18–23). But watching it, it made sense: the All-Star team played hard, physical defense with super athletes, and the Euro guys couldn’t match that.

Caleb Holt finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. A mid-range assassin — shakes and bakes his way into the mid-range and is almost automatic from there. Took two threes off the dribble: one completely missed the rim, the other was all net, and the entire bench went crazy because he absolutely shook his defender.

Davion Adkins – wasn’t notably good or bad… just kind of out there.

Andrej Kostić – Mentioned earlier that Arizona’s Euro target, Ivan, is not your typical Euro player — very physical and great on defense. Andrej is your typical Euro player: not very physical and not great D, but with a great frame (6’7” and semi-muscular) maybe could develop later.
When he sets his feet, for shooting he’s basically automatic. His free throws and first-half threes didn’t even touch the rim, all net.
As the game got out of hand, he tried to force a few off the dribble — none went in.

He’s like a Harlem Globetrotter-level passer — had about six insane, high-level passes that most wouldn’t even try in a real game and all worked.
Example: https://x.com/JonChep/status/1929158544000987644

He’s got shake-and-bake handles, but they didn’t feel super tight , a strong defender could probably strip him a few times.
Finished the game with 19 points.

I’m souring on Adkins the way i did with Clark last year. But Caleb Holt is my #1 in 2026. Just consistent every game and so polish. Can be a great #2 in college in 2026 and win big.

I wouldn’t worry about Adkins.
