How are they affording 1.7 billion?
Dam , with just 100 mil or so we could create frat row or an entertainment district etc.
The article says they don’t have funding at this point.
$1.7 billion seems awfully ambitious.
But a stadium of some kind seems in order.

It made all the sense to have us both utilize Robertson in some capacity - it made the community more lively
I understand the need but for them to play at other places when Shell is unavailable when robertson sits empty on the same date makes no sense - especially if you can get southern and prairie view in there against them
I still miss the old Robertson and getting excited when I saw the lights on hearing the band 
They went big and attached dates to this master plan which means someone better deliver or they’ll be gone - OR it’s a promise down the line for something else in exchange

This is why the PUF has to be expanded. uta’s and atm’s only access to the PUF is indeed racist. TSU just like us ought to benefit from the PUF. Every Texas public university should benefit from it. The Third Ward politicians want to do their job? Go after the PUF to be expanded so…U of H and TSU can benefit from it.

Technically the PUF benefits the UT and A&M systems which includes Prairie View A&M. Though I won’t disagree that the bulk of the beneficiaries are the flagships of each system.
The problem with “going after the PUF” is that it would take a constitutional amendment which would need to be voted on statewide to change it. That makes that path highly unlikely, though I’m sure you were aware of that already.
The legislature finally put in the TUF which benefits UH and other schools. UH likely will just focus on expanding that over time as far as political efforts.
TSU does not meet requirements for the TUF which some may argue was done by design. TSU also one of or maybe the only independent public university in Texas, they have not joined any other system.
Besides past institutional racism and funding disparities, TSU has also seemed to continually get into trouble with financial mismanagement over the years.
I remember in the 90s they were no longer advanced funds for student loans/pell grants as they gave them to too many ineligible people. Then there was the scandal with the President Slade who otherwise was making advances for the school, I think they have had a couple other financial mismanagement issues since. It seems like every time they start to get positive momentum, something happens which sets them back again. This history of mismanagement may make it harder for them to get funding out of the legislature as well.
It is great they have ambitions and a plan, I hope they are able to raise the funds through their alumni, the community, legislature, and even private non affiliated donations through someone like Mackenzie Scott. A strong TSU is a net positive for Houston.
Prairie View, another public HBCU in Texas, does benefit from PUF, but not to nearly the same degree as UT or aTm.
Someone check me on this, but now that SFA has joined a system, I am guessing that only TSU and Midwestern State remain as “independent” public universities in Texas.

Plenty of people want to bring TSU under the UH umbrella. It’s been floated over and over again since integration, and every single time the TSU community has told UH to go to Hell. I suspect they’d rather the school shutter than join the UH System.

Yeah after the 100 yr build out is done, we need to ask Khator about a fraternity row and entertainment area or at least some more bars or a study on it. After the 100 yr build out with the new dorm, we probably have about 10k on campus or close and 3k slightly off campus. I know many are below 21 but they can do wrist bans for under 21 at the bars. If TSU is doing this or even thinking about it, it’s what we need to do next after the 100 yr build out is done in 2027
All gets built quickly if they go into a system who’ll float them
You get tsu in a system you eliminate the biggest problems that has plagued them - the board of regents
This abject injustice should be fought until this wrong is turned into a right. No matter how long it takes. Some politicians have the nerve to talk about education.
Clean your front porch first. Every Texas politicians should against the PUF going to on;y uta and atm. Every single one of them ought to be. Why? Because this is about the future of Texas. Politicians that are for the PUF going to every Yexas public University should bring it up when they face an opponent regardless of what party they represent. This is the only way this will change.
Amendments are there to be created. The PUF is no different.
There is a Governor race going on. I do not live in Texas. Has the subject been brought up? In case it has not reporters are not doing their job.
The PUF’s only access to uta and atm is like the mafia controlling an entire industry. This is as simple as that.
UT and aTm have enough power in both houses to ensure that there will never be a big enough majority to amend on that issue during our lifetimes.
You can’t say never. Being addressed in the open is what is needed. I asked a question about the PUF issue being brought up. Has it been brought up?
Not sure, but my best guess is no simply because people know that UT and aTm’s clout in the legislature is too strong and it would be a waste of time.
Probably not worth spending money and resources on the impossible.

Yea, I’d assume it wasn’t brought up except as a point/bargaining chip in getting the TUF passed.
