Just watched the ~10m Tulane/Auburn highlights and I didn’t see anything that worries me. I see 2 solid field goals and a team that couldn’t get in the end zone. A “sluggish” (ESPN quote) Auburn put up 3 touchdowns and nearly a 4th that they didn’t need when they kicked a final FG. I laughed when at the end the commentator said “Tulane hung in there.”
What did I miss in the full-length game that worries you? (Tulane fans feel free to jump in here also) Who should we be watching on Tulane side of the ball with any concern?
They’ve got a solid defense, but their offense is a work-in-progress after changing systems in the offseason.
We’ve got more talent, but it’ll come down to mistakes as it always does when we play there. Limit the turnovers, force some turnovers, and convert on offense, and I think we run away with it.

On defense:
Patrick Johnson
Cameron Sample
Jeffery Johnson (Biiiiiiiiiiig boy)
On offense:
Darnell Mooney
Jalen McCleskey
Their defensive line is really legit and is an obvious concern for a offense struggling to pass the ball. While Wazzu’s defensive line is not even remotely as good as Tulane’s, WSU had some really athetic guys in the back end that could cover pretty good and a huge athletic nickle that made life extremley hard for King. Tulane has neither of those. I’d like to think our offense is a couple notches above Auburn’s, even though the two QBs have both struggled with passing so far. I really hope their players are reading into the statistical comparisons of King and Nix and assuming they’re going to get the same challenge.
lol King will blow the doors off them with his legs. I think that will be where the game is decided, on King’s legs. He should be able to make some plays. CJC will have a good plan for the quick hitters that McMillan likes to throw. I know a lot of people hate containment scheming but we might need to do more because the nature of how they all play. That’s another reason Aubbie sacked McMillan zero times, it’s because they like to get the ball out quick( where have we seen this before?) and they can. Occasionally when we go single-high safety and are showing blitz, CJC might alternate between blitzing the safety or dropping him into a short zone underneath to take away those slants and meshes. If they want to “make” King throw the ball, then we can do the same to McMillan. Our defensive line will have to stay in their lanes and force McMillan outside to scramble or the entire thing will come crashing down. We can beat these guys, no doubt.
Unlike highlights, I watched the game. Tulane’s defense was tough but their QB couldn’t hit the beach with a beachball. When he did make a good throw, the receivers would drop it. After a number of 3 & outs, the defense started to wear out. TU has a really good frosh RB who was throttled by Auburn who dared the QB to throw.
My take, TU is a dangerous team that could beat UH is the QB is a different player at home. UH’s Dline isn’t Auburn level and the RB could tear us a new one if we’re not careful.

Sad fact is that we have to expect those problems is what they have been focusing on. I would expect those problems to be lessened at least.
