If we lost like 15 starters to graduation, injuries, or the NFL, then a losing season is expected just like UH in 2010 with Sumlin and 2012 with Levine.
No college program is immune to rebuild/bad years.
I just think the people on here overreacted to Tulane winning the Cotton Bowl and think they can insert in Fritz at UH and become the next Boise State or TCU of the 2000s or think Fritz is the next Chris Petersen or Gary Patterson.
People have been advocating for Fritz since way before the Cotton Bowl. It obviously picked up this season, but his name has been coming up for over a decade.
If Fritz came after Herman, the Kyle Allen/Kyle Postma/DâEriq King situation may have been different and then we wouldnât have to deal with DâOnofrio.
At that time the AAC was having Frost, Fickell, and Norvell in their early years of coaching their teams and then our fanbase would be complaining why we arenât as good as UCF, Cincy, or Memphis.
Itâs true that we wouldnât have, but his name did come up at 247/Yahoo/whatever-it-was-then. It was kind of as a darkhorse, but he was coming off that 14-1 season.
We absolutely should have been looking at him in 2016, IMO, though a coach coming off a 4-8 season is a hard sell. 2019 a stronger case could be made since he took Tulane to a bowl, but we fixed on Holgorsen pretty quickly (and I was on board with that, so canât complain). In that sense, the timing was never right.

Losing season sure but 2-10 âŠwhewâŠthatâd be a real tough sell to the faithful. Fritz is too old for my tastes at this point. Just give me a HC that is an actual leader and the rest will fall into place
Fritz would NEVER go 2-10 at UH in the AAC.
A bad year for him would be 8-5 surrounded by a number of 10+ win seasons. We always have more talent than most G5 schools, let alone Tulane.
Most Tulane grads are from all over the U.S. and not from NOLA. In fact, my wifeâs cousin is from NOLA, and when he graduated from Tulane, he was one of only 4 locals at the ceremony!
But winning and being able to watch D1 football in town will add to the allure.
