Tulane vs USC

Tommy two face. :joy:

He’s really an odd coach to rank. Fickle aside, I don’t trust him to get to big games as frequent as the coaches in the A rank. I think he’ll be ok around B rank (9 to 10 wins at least every other year) and if he can’t avoid UConn then might as well drop him to C tier. lol

In his short career I think he led the country in wins against ranked opponents and losses against unranked opponents while ranked. Total basket case that guy.

2014 Boise 38, Arizona 30
2015 Houston 38, FSU 24
2016 Wisconsin 24, WMU 16
2017 C. Florida 34, Auburn 27
2018 LSU 40, C. Florida 32
2019 Penn State 53, Memphis 39
2020 Georgia 24, Cincinnati 21
2021 Alabama 27, Cincinnati 6
2022 Tulane 46, USC 45

So based on all the G5 teams that won their NY6 bowl games since its inception, only Memphis and Tulane still have their head coaches as of now.

*Memphis had Ryan Silverfield as their head coach in their Cotton Bowl vs Penn State since a Norvell was already off to FSU.

Let’s be honest, what season would we be calling for Fritz’s head?

We are getting on CDH after his 4th season here and we have to count the Covid year.

Would the UH administration would have given Fritz 6 years to get a great team?

Many fans think that changing coaches magically solves the problem. Actually, it doesn’t. The constant flux of coaches and always this threat that you will be gone is not helpful for any successful culture. UTAustin and ATM are both victims of this. TCU made a change after so many years with Gary Patterson and frankly Gary deserves as much credit for this success if not more as Dykes. Winning culture takes time when it is non existent.

Those early Fritz records at Tulane were a poor man’s Applewhite.

This is a false premise. If Fritz had been hired out SHSU which I advocated for on this board, back in the day after termination of TL. He would have not had to leave his recruiting grounds, it would have been a easy transition for him I believe. Man what does it take to show coach is ready too move to the next level besides winning Natties at other levels.Blinn, SHSU. Giving the right resources no telling what he is capable of.

That was no neutral field. It was not a home game either, but it most certainly was not neutral.

CDH would NOT have survived 2-10.

Sadly, I think you are right if CDH went 2-10 at UH.
He would have gotten the Dimel and Helton comparisons from Coog fans.

I mean we got rid of Levine and Applewhite for winning 7 games.
Who knows where our program would be if both of them were given 6 years.

After three seasons at Houston, Art Briles’s record was 16-20 with two straight losing seasons and one of them 3-8. That’s the sort of thing that might get you fired at UH today but at the time it didn’t because such evaluations are (or should be) in the context of where the program is.

Let’s be honest, people were calling for Holgorsen’s head after the first season. So ask yourself that question.

To any fan base, the next coach is always gonna be better. The salient fact is CDH’s buyout is the largest determinant in his retention, though few or none of us know what the magic dollar amount might be.

He’ll have at least two more years to make a good showing, which is fair. I’m sure we’ll argue about what looks like progress.

Willie Fritz may or may not have been a good fit for UH. We won’t know. He seems to fit at Tulane, so good for him.

I think CDH will get two more years because the first will be chalked off as ā€œfirst year, new conference.ā€ The excuse mill will be in full swing!

He already does. He is the first coach since Dimel to have back-to-back losing seasons.

Art Briles never had back-to-back losing seasons. He went 3-8 and then 6-6.

The BoR meeting indicated just as much. Holgorsen will be here for two more years barring a total disaster next year, i.e. 0-2 wins.

You’d be OK keeping CDH if he went 2-10 ?

My bad, I thought the second was 6-7.
