UCF Athletic Director speaks out on College Gameday segment

When people remember espn is footing the bill for the cfp, what is in it for them. Is there enough advertising dollar to warrant a 12 game playoff. Most likely not. Most people complain the current bowl game line-up has diluted the bowl season.

If you have an opinion of what navy did/does, wait till you see what p5 will do to g5 with an expanded play-off.

There was the pay for pain that use to exist in rivalry games. Then there will be the referee payola. Should your favorite g5 make the big one, how many 1st stringers will be starting?

Espn is not going to be able to sell that one!

The split is already there. The Championship Game for the G5 is to take down a number 8-12 P5
and it happens every year.

I guess we really need an NCAA/NIT Tourney that includes every Conference Champ or Runner up that does not make it to the CFP
and some at-large teams.

This could be a 12-16 team playoff with the winner being the NCAA Champ.

Let the NCAA control it. Start it before an expanded CFB playoff. Then you will see CFB Playoff expand
bowls will disappear, but the playoffs will expand.

So how many postings on this thread for a cfp of 6,8,10,12 or 16 Teams?
Do you think for a minute that the cartel is listening to us?
You all keep thinking rationally & hoping for a true sport decision.
Do you think for a minute that the cartel is listening to us?
The only thing that the cartel is listening to is the sound of a Dollar bill hitting their bank account.
The only way to get the cfp to change is to hit the cartel in its pocket book.
Can we dismantle the cartel? It will have to come to that if we all can have a true champion.
The more undefeated U of H or UCF are the more issues the cfp will have. Maybe that way litigation will be brought up.

And teams like Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech are swimming in money as well. Meanwhile they also enjoy a huge recruiting advantage due to their Big 12 P5 status.

The only thing winning will do is create a situation where the cartel pulls a couple teams from the conference to weaken it.
It will place those teams with good markets into another conference and destroy the momentum of the conference.

AAC: UL, TCU (preemptive) and Rutger moved
MWC: Utah and TCU moved
CUSA: USF and Cincinatti moved

This is not a reward to the good teams. It is a way to hurt the strength of a conference.
One year the MWC was 8-1 against the Pac10.
The old MWC had a string of three years of equal to or better than the ACC.
Destroy any upstarts and act like you are rewarding performance.

Not only would I push for a 12 team playoff but I would also bump the bowl eligibility to 8 game minimum.

Less bowls and better matchups.

None of the mentioned represented a real threat to existing P5’s like U of H & UCF do.
The only conference that makes sense for a UCF invite is the small12. UCF is blocked by FSU & Miami for the ACC and Florida for the SEC. The small12 would jump at the idea of having a go at the Florida recruiting market. Would the ACC & SEC let it happen? That remains to be seen.

I am sorry I missed your posting but you bring up a very logical point. “Is there enough advertising $ to warrant a 12 game playoff?” You already have the answer. It is called March madness. Not only would it be very lucrative but it is also what everybody wants. The bcs/cfp debate that you have every season is a clear reminder that the popular demand is clamoring for it. That is why the cartel is keeping the g5 at bay. They do not want to share the pie. For the umptieth time this is not & has never been about sport. It is & will always be about $ and cents. On any given day the mouse can slay the dragon. The masses, you and I pull for the underdog. Speak about rating. Can you imagine an underdog G5 facing an Alabama. Heck you couold offer that game on PPV & it would beat Marvin Hagler vs Sugar Ray Leonard. Everybody would want to see it & see a G5 beat Alabama.

This would have the same effect as the Cinderella team does in March Madness and you know America loves an underdog.

Exactly! The current system to is to protect the Money 5s. If they went to an 8 team playoff with the 5 conference champions and 3 at large one being the top ranked G5 it would be a start but it’s not a real playoff until it’s all 10 conference champions and a couple at large teams. The committee should only choose at larges and seed the teams.

You are talking apples an oranges. FB being physical makes it almost impossible for the lesser team to win 2 playoff games to make the big one. In the final game if the lesser team is out 4 starters, doubtful it will be entertaining.
In basketball you can do it with 7 good players. Try doing that in football. What if the top seeded team gets a bye? Chance for them to rest injuried players.

For the umpteenth time, the cfb is espn, not ncaa.
MMB is ncaa.

I don’t foresee ratings being particularly high if somehow the MAC champion faced the CUSA champion in a title football game.

Ratings are high in football because the money teams being the most viewers. Boise facing a major team in a bcs game is what drew the viewers.

If the MAC champs and the CUSA champs made it through several rounds of playoffs to get to the NC game, everyone would be watching because they would know the two best teams made it.

The problem in college football is that the system is heavily skewed. The Alabama and Clemson keep getting all the best talents, depths, and money. The smaller school can never compete. Cinderella may get lucky in a game in the playoff, but her lack of depth will show in the next game. There is just too much disparity.

I for one don’t want to see a conference USA champ face off against an SEC champ. Boring game.

It should happen, but won’t because of the bowl money.

This is the first time Mike Leach made sense.

We need to bring “8-team playoff!” signs to the football game this Saturday. :sunglasses:

A P5 = Cartel sign sums everything up. The G5 stadiums should be filled with them. I don’t care if espn gets irritated by it. They created this scam.
