UCF Game 3 thread (L 6-1)

No score so far in the 3rd.

Coogs have one walk so far while King has settled down from a scary 1st inning.

Not sure who is doing play by play but I really do not like him. Definitely prefer our regular announcer.

Monacy fails to bunt them over. I feel like I already know what’s about to happen.

Edit: I was wrong. Double steal. Bold move by Whitting. I like it. We needed a spark after the failure to get them over.

Corners with 1 out, and our #1 and #2 guys can’t even put it in play. Now UCF threatening again. Not looking good.

Giving this one away. Not a good start in conference play.

Expect ECU to be fired up next weekend…they were swept this weekend at home by UCONN.

6-1 UCF going to the 8th. Be nice to see the bats get going late today.

6-1 is the final as the Coogs couldn’t get anything going today. Rice is in on Tuesday.

I know it is just one series but feels like the same as the others. We start out in a hole, fight back in the 2nd half of the conference but then are having to do well in the conference tournament to make the NCAAs.

We played like a team wanting to go home today.

6 runs in 3 games is not ideal and I still am not 100% confident in the line up. But this weekend around the conference proved road wins will be difficult.

We are currently on the bubble for hosting, not the bubble for making the tournament. We would have to experience an outright and utter collapse to not make the tournament altogether.

UCF is a very good team. 1-2 is what I expected this weekend.

The Cougars were out hit by UCF, 13-7. Six Cougars registered a hit, led by Corey Julks’ two-hit day, which included his third triple of the year. Connor Hollis drove in the lone run for the Cougars on a fielder’s choice, plating Lael Lockhart Jr., who had a hit and scored a run.

Pitching Breakdown:
John King | 5.2 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Joey Pulido | 0. IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Brayson Hurdsman | 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Nolan Bond | 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Senior starter John King suffered his first loss of the year, falling to 4-1 after allowing two earned runs on nine hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Junior Joey Pulido, freshman Brayson Hurdsman and sophomore Nolan Bond all made an appearance out of the bullpen in relief.

According to Warren Nolan, we’re still ranked 7th in the RPI.

Conference is still 5th overall, but we’re closing the gap with the ACC. Need to keep winning those midweek games. This conference might be a legitimate 4 bid conference this year.

Loved the new gray unis though:
